Rod Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 Hardy....Many thanks .. just what I was looking for.Rod
Chip Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 (edited) Hello,The bar Hardy has shown is not from the Flandern Kreuz, but some other interwar medal. There is a list of possible bars for this medal. I thought I saw it here at one time. I know there was a Luftkrieg and a Seekrieg bar. Also, Antwerpen, Durchbruchschlacht, Yser, Westfront, Frankreich, Flandernschlacht, Somme, Champagne, Ypern. Perhaps others.Chip Edited March 6, 2009 by Chip
HeikoGrusdat Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Now you are confusing everything..... The Flanderncross have some clasps (9 I think...) I have shown here some time all together but I can`t find the link now... things like WESTFRONT or FRANKREICH are NOT for the Flanderncross !!!The clasp shown by Naxos is for the Kyffh?usermedal.... another Vets organization medal - for this medal there are many more different clasps (112 I think...)and there are more clasps in different styles for other Vets organization medals....
Rod Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 Heiko,If you should find the link that shows all nine (9) spanges for the Flanders Cross, I would greatly appreciate seeing it.Many thanks,Rod

Perhaps we could start a thread on the various Bandspangen of the veteran associationsHardy

Rod Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 Hi Pinpon,At this point I have seen three more in addition to your ten:ARRASFLANDERNVERDUNThat would make thirteen (13)Rod
HeikoGrusdat Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!stop adding clasps to a medal where no clasps need to be added...... ARRAS FLANDERN and VERDUN have nothing to do with the Flanderncross!!!! Nothing!!!@ Pinpon:You are right!!! I forgot Somme - so there are 10 clasps to the Flanderncross and not more!!!

Medal Bandspangen !
HeikoGrusdat Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Arras Flandern and Verdun are known in some different styles for different medals, of course for the Kyffh?user medal as well...
pinpon590 Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Here is mine, with his "FLANDERNSCHLACHT" clasp.
Rod Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 (edited) I was going on the basis on flanders medals on dealer's websites shown with arras, flandern and verdun spanges.Evidently, they were incorrectly attached.Sorry to jump to conclusions. TEN is then the correct number!!!!!Thanks to all,Rod Edited March 5, 2009 by Rod
pinpon590 Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 And more pictures (from http://www.medailles1914-1918.fr/)
Chris Boonzaier Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 It bears pointing out (For those more into collecting than history) that although we have it as the Flanders cross, it is more of a Marinekorps cross."The Somme" is not Flanders, but there were Marinekorps regiments there during the battle, hence a "Somme" bar on a "Flanders" medal. There were also a handful of Navy dudes at Verdun, but obviously in such small numbers that no "Verdun" clasp was introduced.bestChris
HeikoGrusdat Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 ....of course Chris - the term "Flandernkreuz" is just a nickname.... if I am right the correct name isEhrenkreuz des deutschen Marinekorps
Chip Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Some time ago, I got a small grouping of bars from Germany. I had assumed that they were all bars from this medal, because the style was the same and all have the pebbled background to the words. Could someone please tell me then, what medal the Frankreich, Westfront and Champagne bars go with? Thanks,Chip
HeikoGrusdat Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 question of the style....question of the size.....some of these were for the Ehrenkreuz f?r Frontk?mpfer (Hindenburg-cross) - yes........... this one had Spangen toosome were for many other medals made by jewellers and worn by former soldiers but NOT given out by any association.... same inscriptions were found for the clasps to the EK2 - but the material and style for these were complete different.....open your minds - wide horizon.......................
Chip Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Heiko,I have seen some of your Spange groupings and I suppose that you know as much or more about these as anyone on this forum. Perhaps you can help me with these. The top one is an example from the "Flandernkreuz". When the bars are enlarged to this size, you can see that rather than the crosshatched background of the Luftkrieg bar, the rest have dots (gekornt?). Any ideas as to what medals these belong with or is it anybody's guess? Thanks,Chip
HeikoGrusdat Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 ..... it is always a bit "guessing" by answering these battle clasp questions only from seeing these photos and scans.... much more better is having them in hand !!!But from what I can see here I would say N?2 + 3 are clasps for the Frontk?mpferkreuz and N?4 is a unknown (privat purchased) style for any vets award.....not a typical style from one of the big vet awards
