JapanX Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Excellent piece Sergio! Made by Leningrad Mint (ЛМД mark on ring) Now you need to find piece that was made by Moscow Mint. It will have mark ММД at the bottom of reverse. Another stable characteristic of Moscow vs. Leningrad is packaging. Leningrad pieces packed in plastic while Moscow pieces in white cardboard cases. Regards, Nick

JapanX Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I wonder how many were minted ... Especially since even today they sell them literally wholesale
JapanX Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 (edited) By the way, same "they" claim that there was special limited series of these medals was minted by MMД in silver Edited November 11, 2013 by JapanX
SergioV Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I prefer LMD, better quality, but as a collector i must have the MMD version with doc I heard about the silver version but i never saw, the info that i have is that is made in Tombak and cover with silver, like silver plated.. about how many where minted i have no idea from moscow you dont have any info about this?
JapanX Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 but i never saw. Same story here from moscow you dont have any info about this? Unfortunately no info as per today
paul wood Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 It appears if you were to collect all the awards of the Russian Federation you would need several medal cabinets (and rising).Paul
JapanX Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Come on! These are not "awards" Brass trinkets and nothing more! P.S. Even this medal since 2010 is not an official decoration!
SergioV Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Paul probably mean that russian federation decorations are many, and is true but i collect soviet medals orders and badges i have just few russian federation medals so my cabinet dont need be so huge
JapanX Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Believe me guys one cabinet will be more than enough for all real RF awards 16 orders + 15 medals + HRF+ HLRF
JapanX Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 If I start to collect these where I will put my japanese collection?! Not to mention that in Russia you can get yourself 3 years long jail sentence for such "activity"...
SergioV Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 aahha yes is true but i think if you go with medal out of russia you will have problem, russia to russia i think is ok collect RF and soviet items, sometimes i buy online from Russia i ask you to show because you have probably a specific cabinet for orders and medals and i was curious to see
Phil2012 Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 (edited) Hi, there! Do I make a mistake, or the authentic ones are made of sterling silver?.. I write this because I think I've seen one on a wellknown auction site, last year. Edited November 11, 2013 by Phil2012
JapanX Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Tell you the truth it doesn't matter if you are on your way "out" or you are selling real soviet/RF awards inside Russia. If authorities catch you in the act there will be "troubles" ... Another thing is selling these unofficial trinkets like MVD, Ministry of Defence, etc "awards" or ex-official medals. i ask you to show because you have probably a specific cabinet for orders and medals Probably P.S. I bet Paul has like three or maybe even five such cabinets

I write this because I think I've seen one on a wellknown auction site, last year. Phil, official material for this one was silvered tombac. Direct quote from original statute "Юбилейная медаль "300 лет Российскому флоту" из томпака с серебрением" Personally I've never seen such medal in silver ;) Edited November 11, 2013 by JapanX
SergioV Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 the authentic one is what you see on the picture above, and is made in tombak and cover with silver, like the silver plated The Silver version of the medal i saw for the Zhukov medal but for this no yet
paul wood Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Sergio, the best cabinets for medals are the 18th-19th century collectors cabinets which were often used for gems, cameos, mineralogical specimens etc. The one I have, which is early 19th century glass fronted, cost me £150, I already have about 500 British India related campaign medals in there and there is room for at leat the same amount again. Not ony do they hold a good ammount they look much more attractive than the modern formica crap.Paul
JapanX Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 ....modern formica crap Yes, but on the other hand one doesn't need any cabinets for these
paul wood Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Nick I was suggesting that modern medal cabinets are very expensive and of indifferent quality, unlike 18th/19th century craftsmanship.Paul
