Aha! 5-6-5 years apart-- so perhaps AUTOMATIC (long service?) awards?

I've never seen a SET before to guess at this from the award dates.

I have a pair to the same individual with award dates as follows:

Silver Cross of Merit: 22 July 1956

Gold Cross of Merit: 4 May 1966

Maybe there was a specified time frame for long service awards depending on what the service actually was. If folks would like to see this pair, let me know and I'll get some scans posted.

well, the question is worth answering... I'm waiting for a second group including two classes, bronze and silver, with 5 years between each awarding too...

Perhaps your earlier ones were harder earned, Eric? By the 1980s, lowered standards?

I have a couple of Crosses of merit with award booklets to a policewoman, given to me by a male police officer friend from Warsaw. The different grades could be awarded a number of times each, & it was'nt necessary for them to be awarded in "order" Bronze, Silver, Gold, so he told me.
