Robert Noss
I do not have any ideas who or what he is:The photo is in fact a print, not a real photo. The signature is real, done with ink.His last name is very likely "Jung".The axe makes me think he is Fire-Defense.But the Spike-Helmet looks military.A Kaiserreich official and somehow related to Firefighters ???Many questions, as always. ( Oh, how easy are those 3rd Reich uniforms )Kind regardsRobert
Paul R
That looks more like a native American Tomahawk some sort of battle axe. It does not have any qualities I have seen in a Fire Fighting axe.
Brian Wolfe
To me it looks like a ceremonial piece, something that would be worn or carried on parade or during sepcial events to indicate a rank or position. I don't believe it is North American First Nations in origin, not only due to the age of the photograph but the handle end-cap looks too decorative for N.A. Native. It is also not made rugged enough for a fire axe in my opinion. It's more decorative than utilitarian. Thanks for posting this interesting photo Robert.I look forward to hearing what others think.RegardsBrian

I was not saying that it was a Native American battle axe, but it resembled one. I do not think that it is supposed to represent a Fire Fighting axe at all. I think that it is a ceremonial representation of a battle axe. I look forward to reading more input was well!!
speedytop
Hi,the man would wear a bavarian jubilee medal, the helmet could be bavarian municipal police and the axe could be a ceremonial (awarded) mining axe.RegardsUwe
