Motorhead Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I bought this one a while ago-first I thought it was a new pin variation but now it looks for me like a replacement. What do you think?Micha
Steve campbell Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 ReverseLooks beautiful. I have not seen that type of pin on these before.
Motorhead Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 That's why I've bought it....but as longer as I'm looking at it I think the pin is a replacement.Micha

From the pictures it doesn't satnd out like a replecement as some pins do. I can see why you took the chance. My advice is to keep it. These are proably the nicest looking Iron Crosses, and if you ever see another one with the same pin, you'll feel bad if you let this one go. Looks like a good replacement job if it is one.
Mike K Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Hi Micha,I agree with you - a replaced pin. There is work around the hinge and the central barrel segment does not align well with the outer barrel segments. Also, the basic shape of the pin does not look like "right". It also appears the basemetal of the pin has a slightly different (?yellowish) tone compared to the cross.RegardsMike
Motorhead Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 Mike, you are right. The pin is somehow yellowish and if you look from a different angle at the hinge you can see a gap.My old cam can't catch that correctly, sorry. So this one has to leave me again...Micha
Richard Gordon Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 MichaI have two of this type and both have different pins. Here's oneOther to follow is the 'standard' type. There may be other types too.Rich
Richard Gordon Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 (edited) Here the 'standard' pin shape.Rich Edited April 13, 2009 by Richard Gordon
Eric Stahlhut Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 hi micha et al,i tend to agree--it's a very nice cross, but the pin doesn't seem to match up with the hinge and catch very well.
Eric Stahlhut Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 i'm not sure if i've posted this one before, but since we are on the subject of blued cores and curious pin systems...
Eric Stahlhut Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 toning looks good. note 'notch' on pin at catch area
Eric Stahlhut Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 pin/catch swings tight, lines up evenly, and is well made

Maybe it is a replacement pin also.
