Rosenberg Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 Hi,I am considering to have done a mistake by buying this badge here.I couldn?t do pics of it first,so had to do comparison with printed matter when I bought it.There are 2 things strange to me,it?s the shape of the catch and the connect between the swaz and the right foot.Any comments appreciated....

J Temple-West Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 I would like to see a reverse shot, but going on the pictures supplied... it looks like an original. The connecting piece of metal between the right talon and the swas is a characteristic of found on Pilots's badges by BSW. Saying that, this characteristic can also be found on fakes, so a shot of the reverse setup would go a long way in determining whether right or wrong. In the meantime, here's one for comparison.
Rosenberg Posted November 27, 2005 Author Posted November 27, 2005 (edited) Thanks for the instant commenting JT!I am on the backside pics....soon Edited November 27, 2005 by Rosenberg
J Temple-West Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 Ah, you beat me to it, R. The catch, normally the '?' type looks like its been bent over to make it more secure and has, over time, been bent a little too far. it is possible the the pin has been replaced or resoldered. Other than that...If looks good to me.
Rosenberg Posted November 27, 2005 Author Posted November 27, 2005 I must admit you got it with pics, one of your allach shots is on my desktop, perfect pictures! So I tried my best and take a look...
J Temple-West Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 Repaired, but as Kurt says..."nice badge".Thanks for the compliment on the photography, R. Your pix are coming along quite nicely too!Respect.
Rosenberg Posted November 27, 2005 Author Posted November 27, 2005 (edited) JT in regard to my pics I understand your comments as sign of perfect manners Thanks for the comments!Do you think the repair to be period?Regards Edited November 27, 2005 by Rosenberg
ERIC Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 JD in regard to my pics I understand your comments as sign of perfect manners Thanks for the comments!Do you think the repair to be period?RegardsAgain "nice badge" Dan - repair appears period to me. I like it! ERIC
J Temple-West Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 Again "nice badge" Dan - repair appears period to me. I like it! ERICI would agree with Eric... Typical period repair.
Rosenberg Posted November 27, 2005 Author Posted November 27, 2005 Thanks Eric,I took yours as prototype, but -now luckily-didn?t pay attention enough to detail as I remember yours to be without the swaz connect and with the "?" shaped catch-I wouldn?t have bought this one....Cheers
ERIC Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 Hi Dan, With or without the "swaz bridge", both are just fine. The ones with the bridge just weren't hand finished THAT closely, that's all. You are correct, mine does not have the bridge and indeed has the typical backwards question mark catch. ERIC
Richard Gordon Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 I personally think the 'bridge' is there on purpose and only on later badges, especially zinc, as a strengthening measure. I have seen 2 styles of catch on tombac examples, the ? and a straight-up and over catch. If I get light tomorrow I'll post a pic of what I mean.I like your badge mucho, nice patina and even though a repair to the pin/hinge, a nice badge.Rich
Rosenberg Posted November 27, 2005 Author Posted November 27, 2005 Thanks again for the comments!Regards
Richard Gordon Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Here's a pic of the catch on my Schneider. No evidence that it has been any other shape other than what you see here.Rich
Rosenberg Posted November 29, 2005 Author Posted November 29, 2005 Thanks Richard,I think yours shows mine in unbend condition
