maja Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Hello collectorsis there anybody, who has an EK 2 marked with "1000" in the ring? maja
gregM Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 1000 silver would indecate that the cross was made of pure silver. I really doubt that therewere any "pure" silver crosses made.
Kriztofer Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I agree Greg, Unless it was a purely decorative, one off private custom purchase. Although I wouldn't mind having one.
Tim Tezer Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Strictly speaking, there is no such thing as 1000 silver content. Pure silver is considered to be 999 fine, and the only thing I have ever heard of being made in pure silver was silver bullion. For any practical use, nobody would use 999 silver, so I suspect that this marking must mean something other than the silver content.Tim
joe campbell Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 from a structural standpoint, wouldn't pure silver be ratherimpractical and soft?joe
speedytop Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Tim:"Strictly speaking, there is no such thing as 1000 silver content.""For any practical use, nobody would use 999 silver"joe:"from a structural standpoint, wouldn't pure silver be rather impractical and soft?"No, that is not correct, please see three German decorations with 1000 and 999 silver content:There is another Bavarian medal like these two here on the right, silver gilded with "Feinsilber", and that means 1000 silver too. They are not impractical and soft, only a little softer than other alloys.Uwe
joe campbell Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 thank you, uwe.i learn something new everyday!nice examples, as well.joe
