Missing Medal on Franco-Prussian Medal Bar

This was recently sold in the sales section... It is clearly a simple bar - but it is missing the last medal on the bar. I am at a loss as to what the medal should be. As you can see from ribbon, it is a simple white field with orange/red stripes. Anyone have any idea what medal should go there?

Red stripes are a bit narrow for a Red Eagle Order or Medal... Or even an Honor Medal... Hmmmm...

that`s what TacHel said before - and that`s why we need to see the back - maybe you can see some colour traces there because the stripes are too small for all red eagle / AEZ things......... all is guessing now :rolleyes:

Mind you, I have seen an Honour Medal and a Red Eagle Medal mounted with such a ribbon, but only once, and IMHO, wrongly.

Other similar ribbons (228, 267, 294 & 465) make very little sense and I very much doubt they are correct for this bar...

Ribbon 211 for the "F?r Tapferkeit" medal from Hessen-Darmstadt (most likely Ludwig III) like VtwinVince hinted, is the most likely candidate if this isn't a poorly manufactured Prussian ribbon.

Are we going to see a pic of the reverse?

OK, very VERY pale robin's egg blue faded to off white-- typical of Hessian awards even in the World War.

That is the General Decoration Medal-- LOOKS like the "Bravery" Medal of the same name and identical obverse BUT--

the ribbon stripes were much narrower-- which is what you have here. The reverse inscriptions were for things like "for merit," "for long years service," and even "for saving life."

Ribbon is #210 and 211 in the Deutschland Katalog, for awards 870-883 and 886-892.

Because of the construction of the plate and pin? I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment on that part.

I can possibly see the 1870/71 medal not being original to the set and being replaced by a Frontkampfer but that other ribbon being the WW1 Hungarian medal? THAT I simply cannot agree to... If it is in fact from the 30s, then I think the other ribbon is still from Hessen as previously thought.

Any Ludwig III medal, which would be contemporary with the bar, is going to be hard to find and rather pricey.

That's what I thought at first as my Hungarian medal's ribbon has faded similarly. But my example's reddish parts are wider, extending almost all the way to the edge.

Even taking into consideration the fading, the laddering should still be noticeable and the difference between the blue green center stripe and white outer stripes.
