Guest Rick Research Posted October 14, 2009 Share Posted October 14, 2009 :Cat-Scratch: With only 160 awarded before this class 1900 to 1912... this is a manageable project from the Orders Lists to find them all (type them all up....) and then see how many can be eliminated (Orders Almanac etc) as holders of other awards. The maker's label from Berlin can, I think, be used to eliminate possible wearers from Aachen or Königsberg and so on because this man lived and worked in Berlin. It did NOT belong to Ferdinand Caville, so there is 160- 1 = 159 already. There were only 6 folders in the 1908/09 Orders Almanac (though FUTURE holders may still be in there for verification/elimination)-- Beutel, Karl: NO-- many other awards Browarski, Alb.: NO-- other awards Caville: NO, already eliminated by photo Herrmann, Alexander: NO-- other awards Strahl, Karl: NO-- many other awards and Wecke, Heinrich: NO-- had 1870 EK2. Eliminating everyone not from Groß-Berlin, then checking for EK2 1870s and other awards... also with the old style XV, I would say this is a pre-1913 Spange for someone a.D. before then, so that reduces "suspects" to the Eric Ludvigsen level of recipients. It will be a long boring winter soon. By the way-- it seems that many (if not most?) of the recipienst of the Cross of the General Decoration with Crown ALSO received the Royal Hohenzollern Merit Cross. I haven't checked out any of these 40 in the Orders Almanac or 1870 EK list. Definitely safe to ignore recipients in Metz or Danzig or.... OK, still eliminating them one by one. Not FINISHED by any means since I don't have access to 19th century sources, but there are ways (time consuming) ways to root out awards from OTHER states awards rolls (the Lippes, Hesse etc).
