Chris Boonzaier Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Was happy to pic up the following two cards... on the back in pencil... Our battalion staff (Left to right) Major von Braudt, Leutnant Meyns, Lt d Res Albrecht, Stabsarzt d. Res Dr. Klimm
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 THEN we see why the clever officers in this unit shave their heads.... to suck up to the bosses! Back wow.... Meyns (who still refuses to shave his head)... Dr. Klimm (now with an EK1... )(probably because he keeps his head shaved...), Lt Albrecht... still playing Kojak, but already had the EK1 so no change)... Bottom left Erbprinz v. Hohenzollern (now kommandeur) hiding his head under a hat, and looking as if he comes from a place where they have duelling banjos and interbreeding is order of the day.... then right... Prinz Jpachim Albrecht von Preussen REALLY looking the part and figurehead for the baldy battalion....
VtwinVince Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Great photos Chris, is that a star of the HHO the Erbprinz is wearing?
Glenn J Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Chris, I assume these guys are from Reserve-Jäger-Bataillon Nr. 5. Major Andreas v. Brandt was commanding in the earlier photo. Leutnant d.R. Albrecht was killed as an Oberleutnant d.R. in 1918. Hauptmann Friedrich Viktor Fürst von Hohenzollern was the temporary commander from 19 to 29 May 1917 and again from 11 to 26 June 1917. Regards Glenn
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 Hi Glenn, Super! Thanks, that allows me to narrow it done very much indeed!
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 Great photos Chris, is that a star of the HHO the Erbprinz is wearing? Hi, Good question... I have no idea... I am a bit of a dud outside of the EKs...
Glenn J Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Here is Major v. Brandt. Stabsarzt d.R. Dr. Wilhelm Klimm (Landwehrbezirk Hirschberg) was the battalion Medical Officer. Regards Glenn
Mike Dwyer Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 (edited) Probably no one really cares, but just for a bit more information, the full name of the prince is Friedrich Viktor Pius Alexander Leopold Karl Theodor Ferdinand Erbprinz von Hohenzollern (1891-1965) who later became Fürst upon the death of his father. He was the father of the current prince, Friedrich Wilhelm Ferdinand Joseph Maria Manuel Georg Meinrad Fidelis Benedikt Michael Hubert Fürst von Hohenzollern (born 1924). The current heir, Karl Friedrich Emich Meinrad Benedikt Fidelis Maria Michael Gerold Erbprinz von Hohenzollern was born in 1952 and is a member of the band Charly and the Jivemates, in which he sings and plays guitar and saxophone,. He married Alexandra Gräfin Schenk von Stauffenberg whose father was a nephew of the Graf Schenk von Stauffenberg who tried to assasinate Hitler. Erbprinz Friedrich Viktor is listed in the 1914 Rangliste as a Leutnant in the 1.Garde-Regiment zu Fuss and has the following decorations listed: RAO Grand Cross, HEK1, AB1, BT, HSH1, RumSt1, and Sic.F1 Edited January 12, 2010 by Mike Dwyer
Tom Y Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 A blaues Blut hobnobbing with a democratic fellow named Mack Oh, tempora, oh mores!
Guest Rick Research Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 The (South German) Hohenzollerns were a fine bunch. Young fellow there was still giving out the House Order to devoted locals in the summer of 1945 and was quite open handed with replacements for lost WW1 awards from the Great Big Box of leftovers he must have had up at the castle.IF THEY had been in charge ours would be a different world.... Wartime awards from the Principality nicely listed in that 2008 Rolls opus.
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 Where did the Prinz stand on the NS issue during the 30s? Nest Chris
Glenn J Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Chris, as there was no regular officer of the name Meyns in the Prussian Army, I believe young "Meyns" is Leutnant Carl Mayntz of RJB 5. Regards Glenn
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 Hi Glenn, Thank ye very much! Best Chris
