Tom63 Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 Roarling silence.....anthing odd with this eK? 3nd core type EK 1 AWS
Motorhead Posted May 31, 2010 Author Posted May 31, 2010 More a Godet/Meybauer core with a textbook AWS reverse.....but don't ask me why.... Micha
Glenn R Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 Definately different core details. Does look quite Godet. AWS back is absolutely spot on.
Mike K Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 The frames look like a total mismatch. I'd suggest, without seeing some edge shots, a put-together from original components. Regards Mike
Taurus454 Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Looks like a new type, I am going to call it "FrankenEK"! Tom
ekhunter Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 (edited) Looks like a new type, I am going to call it "FrankenEK"! Tom I like that name! Put together, but put together when is the question? Would love some side photos to see any possible sign of new solder, as the frames appear to not line up very well, but hard to tell. I suspect, at least from what I can see from the photos, that this so called FrankenEk was put together a long long time ago, but side photos would be nice. Edited June 8, 2010 by ekhunter
Motorhead Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 Well, you have to wait for more pics-I'm in Teheran at the moment and won't return to my iron crosses breeding and care station until the first or second week in July! Micha
Streptile Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 3nd core type EK 1 AWS Hi Tom, AWS already has 3 known cores. Mike, I have one of these Pillowbacks with frames that are similarly offset, and I've seen another. I don't think this one was a put-together, but rather a good AWS with (for some reason) a Godet-style core. Why? Who knows -- but core swapping was (as you well know) epidemic with 1914 EKs.
