Scott Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I've put a German Luftwaffe Beer Stein up for opinions in the members valuation/discussion area; the stein (if authentic) is likely from the mid-late 1930s (photo below). The design has the following wording around the central motif, "Unteroffizier Corps der hoheren Stabe im Luftkries IV". A couple of experienced collectors advised me the spelling of "Corps" (vs. Korps) should be cause for concern, while a couple of other experienced collectors in another forum told me the spelling of "Corps" (with a "C") is not unheard of for the period. I'd be interested to hear other opinions on the spelling of Corps vs. Korps in the context of a LW-themed beer stein from the mid-late 1930s. Thanks!
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Hi, Am not to sure of the rule, but "K" and "C" were sometimes used for "Klasse" and "Classe" cmap "Komp." and "Comp." Best Chris
Glenn J Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Scott I am not sure of a hard and fast rule but in the published army lists the spelling of Armee-Corps became Armee-Korps in 1893. Similarly, the spelling Cavallerie became Kavallerie at the same time. Regards Glenn
Scott Posted February 16, 2011 Author Posted February 16, 2011 Thank you for your replies, gentlemen.
speedytop Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Hi, I can say as a German, that it was and is not unusual, to apply and to write Corps instead of Korps, both could be correct. Not for the military organization "Korps" (army corps), but for military related organizations like Offiziercorps and Unteroffiziercorps, and i.e. for shooting and carnival clubs, music groups and other traditional clubs. For example: http://www.panzergre...1980-2113313095 or http://www.scheibenschiessen.de/ or http://www.fanfarenc...e.php?page_id=1 or http://www.myheimat....33,1098164.html Uwe
