JimZ Posted October 7, 2011 Author Share Posted October 7, 2011 I would say that our man died in the 1941 purge....carried the rank of lieutenant general. There's a few names there. A handful actually. I just cannot research them as my browser keeps crashing!!!! Already re-installed it today to no avail!!! Initially I thought he was recipient 1 of an order awarded circa 5,000 times and of another awarded 57,000 times - I've got a feeling I too was on a wild goose chase there..... the reference is probably to a group of men and not recipients of an order ....... His boss received the order of Victory - perhaps Zhukov.....perhaps he was in the Battle of Khalkin Gol And the bounty on his head....intriguing!!!! He participated in the Spanish Civil War where he was known as "General Duglas" for which he received the Hero of the Soviet Union.[2] He was in charge of aviation for the 1st Army Corps at the Battle of Khalkhin Gol, receiving Hero of the Soviet Union. He was the commander of Soviet Air Force from 1939 to 1940. He was arrested on June 8, 1941[3] and executed on personal order of Lavrentiy Beria on October 28, 1941.
