ub6365 Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Old times secrets are opened now to anyone (historians, writers etc)... Very nice question!
Christophe Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 (edited) I was looking more to the Eastern part of Russia... But, in fact, Jim edited the YES to your second point, and I did not notice this... My mistake... I was investigating cities like Khabarovsk, Vladivostok... Well done ub6365 !! Ch. JimZ Posted October 8, 2011 Author Posted October 8, 2011 UB 6535 gave more than the answer that was requested..... He actually gave us the address!!! Indeed these are part of the central archives of the ministry of Defence located in Podolsk, just South of Moscow. For any of you who has researched a Soviet ODM, you must know that the documents received are stored somewhere in Russia.....Well this is part of the complex!! There is indeed a whole subforum dedicated to researched documents. If you have any such research please post there. Yes - Christophe. I indeed posted "Yes" to the Eastern part of Russia and edited it soon after as I realised that had overlooked East Russia. In my editing I also expanded on my comments not to keep them too dry. Well done UB6365!!!!

ub6365 Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 (edited) Easy one... I am a legend. I was born in Kharkov. My father was Hero of Socialist Labor. All my brothers participated in WW2. You can see my monuments in Moscow, Berlin and Ulaanbaatar. But I have other relatives in other countries, China and North Korea. Some of them are still alive. Who am I? Jim  Edited October 8, 2011 by JimZ
Christophe Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 (edited) Mikhail Khoskin was my father and I was first produced at the KhPZ factory in Kharkov... Monuments exist in the cities mentioned by ub6365, like at the Soviet memorial in Berlin, where the two first T-34 entered in berlin are displayed. This tank has been produced under licence, with variants in the counries mentioned : China, North-Korea... The pic shows the T-34 monument in Ulan-Bator... Ch. Edited October 8, 2011 by Christophe
JimZ Posted October 8, 2011 Author Posted October 8, 2011 I'd have actually gone for something to do with Antonov aircraft...... With Oleg Konstantinovich Antonove being an HSL.....and with his A7 glider being produced in Kharkov...However I hardly think there are monuments to that! Perhaps Chrstophe is on the right track. Jim
Christophe Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Thanks ub6365 This was a nice one... So, my turn now ? Please, let me a few minutes... Cheers. Ch.

Christophe Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 OK, this should be an easy one... We stay in architecture, with a special building symbolising quite well its purpose. Question : 1. What is this building ? 2. Where is it located ? 3. When was it built ? 4. Who designed it ? 5. One of its architects has been in an unusual situation when designing it : what situation ? 6. This architect has been honoured by a prestigious award : which one ? Good hunt and good luck !! Cheers. Ch.
ub6365 Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 The Georgian Ministry of Road Construction is a building in Tbilisi, Georgia. It was designed by architects George and Zurab Chakhava Jalaghania to the Ministry of Construction of Roads of the Socialist Soviet Republic of Georgia and was completed in 1975.
ub6365 Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 From Wikipedia: George Chakhava (გიორგი ჩახავა) studied architecture at the State Polytechnical University in Tbilisi and graduated in 1949. Since then he has worked as an architect with his own studio and realized projects in Georgia as well as in Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan,Afghanistan and Livia. He claims that his main inspiration is the unique nature of my country with its individuality and beauty of each region in harmony with mountain villages. I was always amazed by the ordinary Georgian peasant's ability to build the house where the most expressive landscape was opened, sometimes preferring the nature's beauty to the living convenience. That is why the mastering of complicated relief became the defined moment of my creative work. On my view, the more relief is complicated, the more possibilities have the architect.[3] Chakhava received several Honoration and awards. He was honored by the Union of the Architects of USSR, 1983 he received the State Prize of the USSR Council of Ministers. The Georgian Union of Architects awarded him with a medal for "The Special honor in Architecture". In 1991 he became Honored Member of the International Academy of the Architecture of the Oriental countries.
Christophe Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Fast !! The exact names of the architects are George Chakhava and Zurab Jalaghania. But, what was the unusual situation with one of them ? And the prestigious award ? Ch.
Christophe Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Hi again, We posted at the same time ... The unusual situation is that George Chakhava was the Minister of highway construction in the 1970s. Therefore, he was both the client and the lead architect of this project. ub6365, you are the winner !!! Congrats !! Your turn... Ch.
