army historian Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I would like opinions on this bar. Thanks http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2012/post-8299-0-96430700-1328056373.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2012/post-8299-0-18360500-1328056390.jpg
Paul C Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 I can not comment on the originality of the bar but I can say that just a colonial medal and Hindenburg does not make much sense to me. I would think that there should be at least a long service medal on it.
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 hmmm, I think the combination is TECHNICALLY possible, am not sure how likely though. What gets me is the 2 pinpricks in the HK cross ribbon, as if it had been pinned at some stage in its life, and is now mounted.
M Hunter Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 (edited) Both of the ribbon "furls" look different to me. Matt Edited February 1, 2012 by M Hunter
army historian Posted February 1, 2012 Author Posted February 1, 2012 I think you are all correct - I think the colonial is a copy. Thanks
army historian Posted February 1, 2012 Author Posted February 1, 2012 How about some comments on this one? ' alt='' class='ipsImage' > ' alt='' class='ipsImage' >
army historian Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 I am seriously thinking about buying this bar. Please give opinions - Thanks
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Hi, that 2nd one with the Bulgarian and Austrian medals leaves me a bit puzzeled.... I think you had to show your Hindenburg cross to get one? The last one looks kinda nice...
army historian Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 Thanks Chris - Yes the one with the Bulgarian and Hungarian is odd - probably not German or did not qualify for German Front fighter's Cross. I think they could request their medals with out a lot of documentation, except the German one. As for the one with the Samoa 1888 bar - I am thinking of buying, it is a possible combination, not like the first. These Colonial medals are very hard to ID originals and fakes. I am not crazy about the condition of Colonial medal - but I have one that's original and in even better condition. Negotiations on price going on right now. So we will see. I relished it as "Another Colonial Bar - Good or Bad". Geroge
