Stogieman
Here's a surprise find for me, a very nice, original Schaper Sea Pilot Badge! It's been sometime since I've seen one out on eBay, but nonetheless, here it is!

jaba1914
Can you please post better and sharper pictures. I'm not certain about this badge. I compared with my Shaper badges and pictures of other and there are some differences. Regards Alex Edited March 27, 2012 by jaba1914
Stogieman
Hi Alex, if you click the picture, it gets bigger. As an aside, both Detlev & Carsten have approved of the badge
jaba1914
Maybe i'm wrong but from this pictures i'm not certain. Last year on a show i had a badge in my hands that looks like this and it was not a good one. Some details are diferent like known Shaper pieces. The bird, the leafs and the bow. Maybe i'm totally wrong. Better pictures will clarify all. When does Detlev approved this Badge? I never heard from Detlev for many years. VtwinVince
Do you have a link to the auction? I have to agree with Alex, some aspects are different, and the color of the gilding looks funny, but I'm not much of an expert.
Stogieman
From what I have gleaned over the years; there are two different Schaper badges out there, totally different maker marks and die characteristics. Some people ascribe to the badge shown, some ascribe to the one I have shown. Detlev is still around, just not active on forums, etc. Carsten offered to buy the badge from me. That's good enough for me. I have very large 300dpi images, but they are way to big to post here. So, I guess we'll all just agree to disagree. jaba1914
Two different Shaper versions for the Same badge. Why? Shaper use the Same tools for the badge. I don't think there are two version, Expect The Silver and the bronce Version. There are some minor difference between both. I seen several Shaper over the Years but all have the Same characteristics. Sell it to Carsten if He want it. No Need to Be discuss any more. Stogieman
No, I said he offered, not that it's for sale. I'll be enjoying it myself!
jaba1914
When i reviewed Baldes book about the german aviation badges i saw exact this badge presented on page 674. it has the same bright spot on the back. It is declared as an fake. But i remember you wrote Baldes approved it. It seems he changed his oppinion. I still have doubts about this version.
