Laurence Strong Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 (edited) Hello haratio My Mom and Dad christened my Laurence -spelt with a "u" instead of a "w" as Mom was Belgian and the French version is Laurent. My friends call me larry. You can call me anything you want'cept late for dinner Cats will let you know when you are not paying enough attention to them ha ha. Those would make superb RC ships I don't know enough about the navy to really comment on the ships. I do think, that for all the steel, Reich Marks etc that went into the German captial ships, they did not seem to get much in the way of return. Might have been better off using the resouces for U-Boats and panzers...... Larry Edited January 27, 2013 by Laurence Strong
Haratio Fales Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 These were 2 more designs of ships that were never built. I have received conflicting stories as to the designs for them. I have been told that the general specs were laid down and that they never got to the actual planing stages, and another source has told me that they had plans, but the Germans destroyed the plans so the allies wouldn't get a hold of them. The big problem with the Z plan is that if it could have been realized the allies would have ran along with it and been even larger than they were at the same time frame, and it would have taken resources from the land and air forces Germany had at the time. They did divert allot of materials into subs and tanks, like the metal that was sloted for the first 2 m class cruisers that I am scratch building on this post. Anyway if I can come to a truthful out come on these 2 designs, and it is that there are no actual plans in existance then I will set down at my drafting desk and produce some. There is enough information about the specifications and as many German ship plans that I have now from that period I believe I could lay out what would be logical or very damn close anyway. And if their are line drawings somewhere then I would dare anyone to prove me wrong. Hopefully though I can find them and I won't have to go through all that LOL. The weather here is cold but it is going to be nicer next week, so I plan to do more on the project, as soon as I do I'll post some progress pics.
Dan137 Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 This should be the last major body filler sesion. the hull weighs about 110 lbs which would make it hard to steal, LOL. anyway I plan on useing it to make a set of molds for the RC hull, and I can use this one for the static version. That's one hell of an impressive hull. I was going to ask how much it weighed. As you say, no one's going to walk off with that from a display table (well not unless they're built like Arnold Swarzenegger).
Haratio Fales Posted March 2, 2013 Author Posted March 2, 2013 I'm sorry I have gotten lost in the time tunnel again. The project sets on My living room bench, but I haav ebeen studying Computer aided drafting and looking at purchasing a 3D printer to make parts for my projects. This looks like a feasable happining it the future. I am saving money towards this. on a side note I am working on a side project to produce a 1/350 scale Z plan SpahKruezer and posibly turn it into a garage kit. here are a few pics, let me know what You think.
Haratio Fales Posted March 2, 2013 Author Posted March 2, 2013 Sorry, I posted the pics backwards LOL, I'm on like 16 forums, and they all do the pics different. Anyways, this should be a quick build as its small, and im doing it waterline. I thought about making a new thread about it, but I dont think it will get that big. The ship had 2 designs and were to be big destroyers that would do recon for the z plan battle groups. They would have been the only WW2 destroyers to carry a sea plane. Thats if you consider them a destroyer as they would rival the armerment of other nations light cruisers. As you can see in the plan, there is no catapult or plane but it was in the design specs, so I am going to ad this on.
Haratio Fales Posted March 3, 2013 Author Posted March 3, 2013 I added foil to the hull sides to see if it was practical in this scale.
Haratio Fales Posted April 24, 2013 Author Posted April 24, 2013 Hi all, I have finally got a little time and money on my side so I have built an 8 foot drafting desk, for project work.
Haratio Fales Posted April 24, 2013 Author Posted April 24, 2013 I bought a couple of 100 scale turrets for reference, and posible 100 scale projects later on. So I have started to build sheet styrene parts for th main turrets on the ship.
Haratio Fales Posted April 24, 2013 Author Posted April 24, 2013 I should have probably built the project in 1/100 scale LOL as I could buy all the parts and peices in that scale, and It could have been a fun toy for reference. anyway I like the 1/72 better. I bought a Drafting machine for my desk, now I need some scales for it. and I have been playing on my Dremal wood lathe, even though it is a bit small for some of the barrols.
Haratio Fales Posted April 24, 2013 Author Posted April 24, 2013 The first Gun barrol didn't come out to bad considering it was from a broom stick. I am thinking about using it to resincast for Toy ship stuff. For models though I need to be a bit more accurate and use harder wood like cherry, or walnut. and or metal on a metal lathe. This one is just a hair to big for the 11 inch design but I'm happy with the attempt. I will post real soon as I am continuing on the turrets though and see what you all think. From the Beaches in Cheyenne, Haratio.
Laurence Strong Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Very nice. I enjoy seeing the ingenuity people come up with when scratch building. Looking forward to more updates Larry
TacHel Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 It's been nearly 3 months since any update!! We're exhibiting the first signs of withdrawal symptoms!!
Haratio Fales Posted January 6, 2014 Author Posted January 6, 2014 (edited) Ok, I started writing a book about the design of the Z plan ships, and I have been building a workshop to move the projects out of My living room and into My garage. I have been learning 4/ 3D graphic programs and have 4 3D printers on order to beta test for a company in Canada. So I'll post some pictures of the drawings I'm working on for Munich, The Spahkruiser, and for the book illustrations. Edited January 6, 2014 by Haratio Fales
Haratio Fales Posted January 6, 2014 Author Posted January 6, 2014 I still am learning how to texture, paint and render the images, and have to draw the pieces different to make images and to print the parts for the models, however I should get the first machine in a couple of weeks and the others by march, so I hop to get into full swing to make the parts to continue on Munich. My older Brother and I are getting a LLC license to sell things on our website ( Enterprise Federation Foundation) so if I can publish the book by then and start producing custom Model parts, and kits then I can sell them there along with using Amazon. I look forward to finishing the scratch build projects also as to start some more. I have about a ten planed and don't want to be 90 when I start the fourth one LOL. so the 3D printing should seriously speed up the time on building them. Sorry I get caught in the quick sand of life for long periods of time. I hope the things I'm doing change that so I can be more consistent with the build logs. Oh and before I forget, Happy Holidays, and a Prosperous new year to You all. Smoot sailing, Haratio.
Haratio Fales Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 Here is a png file if it works right.
Haratio Fales Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 Here is another after a little railing work.
christerd Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Wow , Impressing ! I´ll looking forward to what you will do with a 3D writer . Totally amazing work Have a good 2014 Christer
Haratio Fales Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 lets see if it will let me do this one. I added hatches and portholes.
TacHel Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Did you stop work on your ship? It's been an eternity since the last pics...
Haratio Fales Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 The big project has been haulted do to the 3D cad learning and waiting on the 3D printers to come so I can produce all the little detailed parts for the Big model of the Munich. like the radars and Gun turrets. that's why I'm showing the 3D drawings of her, its the same ship design. The weather has been holding me up also cause I cant cast the concrete hull molds from the Plug indoors.
Laurence Strong Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Cant wait for the price of the printers to drop.....Looking forward to more Horatio Larry
Haratio Fales Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 The Printers that were suppose to be here in December are from a company called (Preachy Printers) I am suppose to be a Beta tester for them. I'm a little aggravated with the fact that they were suppose to come out on the market in 2015 or 16 but now they are suppose to hit the shelves in May of this year. They should sell for around 500 dollars apiece and they make all the plastic string printers look like toys. These printers use lasers and salt water resin to make detail down to the size of a human hair thickness. The 3D program that You print from is called Blender. Blender is a 3D artistic CAD program that is totally free to download online and is comparable with the programs that Lucas arts, and Industrial Light and Magic use. It does however take a good amount of time and dedication to learn though. It is like taking college classes unless you have already been drawing Cad for a while. There are very good books though and a ton of stuff on You tube to help anyone to start and continue learning it though. I was just hoping that my 1200 dollar investment was going to give me about 2 years give or take to make stuff before the general public was going to get there hands on the machines. at least the general public doesn't have my knowledge about Plan Z ships, and all my blue prints and line drawings of the subject, LOL.
