christerd Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 I know it´s a small and quite blurry pic, but I thought I should share it with you anyway. The photo shows a young Sailor probably with his mother, I think he is a Matrosengefreiter Artillery ? and ha has been in some action ..... EK II , EK I (cant be very often a ordinary seaman got an EK I ? ) Wound badge , Minesweeper Badge , High Seas Badge. And I think I can see a Shooting cord also on his left shoulder. I wonder what ship he was on a survivor from Bismarck ?? Well he could be from almost any surface ship I suppose but the thought is thrilling at least. Nothing written on the back so we will never know the story behind this forgotten soldier, another mystery photo in my collection ...... Christer
Paul R Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Christer, It is an awesome portrait. Is there anything written on the back?
Martin W Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 Hi Christer, i agree a great photo. I doubt he was a survivor of the Bismark as i beleive the ones that did survive were all taken prisoner. Regards,Martin.
