Stogieman Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Landed last night. Research in progress. More to follow!
Stogieman Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 One of the things that really appealed to me about this group, apart from the completeness, is this one little detail. He never conformed to regs and kept his initial award. Even his medal bar reflected his feelings on this coveted award. Note that his first place Red Banner Ribbon on the bar has a "blank" bottom. he simply mounted the S/B below the bar and wore it like this!!
Stogieman Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 And a "group shot". Two Red Stars. One's pretty beat up on one arm.... but it's his. He kept it, so will I.
Stogieman Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 And his Orders Book. Everything listed is still with the group. A 1942 Red Banner should prove to be a pretty interesting citation!
Stogieman Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 Ladies & Gentlemen, I give you Comrade Nedashkovsky
Ed_Haynes Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Oooooh ... very pretty, research should be fun.
Stogieman Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 Yep. I'm very much looking forward to as much of a file that can be found. It should make an interesting addition to the "Researched Groups" Forum when it arrives!! Now the hard part...... the wait.
HuliganRS Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Congrats! That Red Banner is a keeper! See, you do get positive feedback from me! Rusty.
Stogieman Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 Well thanks Rusty! That means a lot to me. The disc is about half the size of the later ones and looks like real silver, although it's not marked or numbered. Interesting note... there was a very thick fiber button between the the disc and the award itself. Very interesting.
HuliganRS Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 That screwplate is the correct one for that award. The fiber disk was a buffer so the awardee would not get poked.Rusty.
Gerd Becker Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 (edited) Awesome group, Rick. I guess, he had a reissue on his medalbar, right? That would be great to find that one.Gerd Edited February 7, 2006 by Gerd Becker
HuliganRS Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Gerd,No. there was no re-issue Red Banner. The awardee simply wore the screwback under the first ribbon.Rusty.
Gerd Becker Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Gerd,No. there was no re-issue Red Banner. The awardee simply wore the screwback under the first ribbon.Rusty.Thanks, Rusty. Thats probably the case. I guess, its still possible, that he had a reissue additionally. I have seen quite a lot with a s/n under 25.000, so why not this one too.Gerd
HuliganRS Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 If he had a re-issue, the original would be taken back.Rusty.
Riley1965 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Rick,I'm drooling all over my keyboard. A VERY nice find . I look forward to hearing about the man behind the medals.Doc
Gerd Becker Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I am really curious, how he might got the first ORB. These two are in my little database:14.522 22.02.194118.674 09.08.1941so yours should be somewhere about Mid 1941. Any info about the units, he served in? Who signed the VoG-Document?Gerd
Stogieman Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 Alas, a small damper on the party.... the 2 Red Stars aren't the right ones! All the others match the book...
Stogieman Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 Yep, a little bummed over this, but it's my own fault. In studying all his photos (the guy who had the set) the 2 stars I received are the ones he showed, but I checked the RB's, not the RS's. We shall see what he has to say.....(I will confess to still being outrageously pleased with everything else and the matching orders book!)
Ed_Haynes Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Oh . . . so sad . . . and well worth checking with the vendor to see if things got improperly packed. Still, as you so rightly observe, all else is wondrous . . .

I have noticed that on his Website, but thought, he just switched the pictures I hope he knows, where the right ones are.
Dudeman Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Nice example of a mirrored Red Banner and original screwback nut.
Stogieman Posted February 8, 2006 Author Posted February 8, 2006 Thanks guys, I'm still thrilled with the group. Given what's here and what's right, the stars are a disappointment, but it's still the best ORB group I have!
