Chris Boonzaier Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 A nice book from the wifes family...
hucks216 Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 Very nice page indeed - Destroyer and Blockade Breaker awards, not to mention the Narvikschild. What Destroyer was he on at Narvik?
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 15, 2012 Author Posted December 15, 2012 Hi, he was on the Bernd von Arnim Best cHRIS
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 15, 2012 Author Posted December 15, 2012 Here is some of his other stuff. Obviously as an officer he had no cap tally, but I looked for a Bernd von Arnim Tally to display with his stuff for almost a decade before Gordon Williamson came up with this beauty.
Martin W Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 What a great group of awards Chris. From Destroyers at Narvik to Blockade Breakers later in the war. Very interesting and unusual,i think. Any idea what Blockade Breakers he served on ?? Regards,Martin.
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 16, 2012 Author Posted December 16, 2012 Hi, The blockade breaker was a late award, but dates from the beginning of the war, partially prewar time. He was on one of the Navy supply ships for the battleships that left german waters just before the outbreak of the war. He was on the Westerwald. They were disguised as a Norweigian ship.
hucks216 Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 ...He was on the Westerwald... A name that lives on in the current German Navy.
