Chris Dale Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Here's a photo of Sultan Wali Mohamed bin Salim of Mikindani who worked for the Germans as a local official in East Africa. The photo was taken in 1902. He wears a medal. Is it a German one do you think? There's a larger version of the photo from the Library of Congress here http://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/89708468/ But it's not much clearer sorry. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on this one. Cheers Chris
paul wood Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Could it be the Merit Medal of the Order of the Crown. Paul
saschaw Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 It is the Prussian Crown Order Medal, which wasn't affilliated to the Prussion Royal Crown order. It wasn't part of the official prussian award system. They were quite accurate in what to give to "their" Natives and the colonies and what not to give. He could never have received a Red Eagle or Royal Criown order, I guess.
Chris Dale Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 Thanks guys, much appreciated! Cheers Chris
