paja Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 Order of the Cross of Takovo 1st class (I think V. Mayer) and 50th Anniversary of the 2nd Serbian Uprising. Historical Museum of Serbia: http://www.imus.org.rs/index.php?jz=1
Rogi Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Beautiful love the hue on the Order of Takovo's Sash
paul wood Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Radmilo The table medal for the 50th Anniversary of the Second Uprising is gorgeous, first I have ever seen must be really rare. Thanks for showing. Paul
paja Posted January 14, 2016 Author Posted January 14, 2016 Don't mention it, here's one more example from National Museum's website. This one is made out of gold. Apart from gold and silver I've also seen these medals made out of some other metal.
paul wood Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Radmilo that really takes the biscuit, presumably presented to either a royal or senior general I would imagine, interesting to see the test mark beneath the date suggesting it had a visit to the pawnbrokers at some time. Paul
paja Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 According to "Decorations of the people of Yugoslavia" by Mila Piletić that is the only known golden medal. Silver medals were to be awarded to families of participants of the Second Serbian Uprising who passed away while medals made out of copper and zinc were given to those present at the celebration. They were made by W. Pittner and marked W. P. Participants of the Second Serbian Uprising who were still alive received the cross.
paja Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 Here's an example made out of zinc. Images are from an auction held a year or two ago, achieved price was 120 euros (+15% buyer's premium).
paul wood Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Radmilo most interesting. Most interesting, Even in bronze and zinc (or white metal) they are highly elusive. I notice they are not listed in Car and Muhic. Is it worth additionally having Piletic. Many thanks Paul
paja Posted January 19, 2016 Author Posted January 19, 2016 (edited) That was the best book about royal decorations before Car&Muhić came out. Even now I still consider "Orders of the People of Yugoslavia" worth having, there are information you can't find at Car&Muhić for example about table medals. The book covers Montenegro as well. Considering that there are just a few books about Montenegrin orders this is big plus for me. Before I found an example of "Montenegrin Decorations" by Milan Jovićević it was my only source. Basic info: ПИЛЕТИЋ, Мила: Одликовања југословенских народа XIX и прве XX половине века (до 1941.) из збирке Војног музеја у Београду, Београд: Војни музеј, 1987. PILETIĆ, Mila: Decorations of the People of Yugoslavia from XIX and the First Half of XX century (until 1941) from the Collection of the Military Museum in Belgrade, Begrade: Military Museum, 1987 The book is written in Serbian language, Cyrillic alphabet with summary in English. Number of pages is 206, from page 117 onward is the catalog. Around third of the book consists of images, some in color others black&white. It's been a long time since they were sold out but from time to time used ones in decent condition appear. As for the price I payed 10 euros for mine, for that money it's definitely worth having. paul wood Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Radmilo, Cheers, If it's the one that has a red cover I think I can lay my hands on a copy. Paul
paja Posted January 19, 2016 Author Posted January 19, 2016 (edited) Spot on Paul! Cover and couple of pages from the book as an illustration. PS before you lay your hands on a copy of your own I'll be glad to help you with information from the book if needed. Edited January 19, 2016 by paja
paul wood Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 I know where there is one for sale, I will have it by tomorrow, many thanks Radmilo. Paul
paja Posted January 19, 2016 Author Posted January 19, 2016 Don't mention it Paul! This is off-topic but while we are on the subject of table medals take a look at this one. Independence Medal made by W. Pittner Photos found on ebay.
paul wood Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Radmilo very nice and quite rare, I have encountered it once in once in over thirty years. I now have Piletic on my desk, I bought it on the way home from work from a dealer who was unloading a deceased collectors library and certainly is useful as complement to Car as it includes several items not listed in the book. Paul
paja Posted January 21, 2016 Author Posted January 21, 2016 Glad to hear that Paul, I hope it will come in handy. I've been wanting to start a separate topic about militaria related literature. First I have to get some of the latest issues.
