taube Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 (edited) Gentlemen, in my first thread I showed a photo postcard of Moritz Wibel. There is a second card from the same lot that I would appreciate your opinions on. It is a group shot of a manoeuvre held in Thalmässing in 1908. The text says the men are of 9. Infanterie Brigade. Oskar von Xylander commanded that unit in 1908. Now, would the strong gentleman in the middle have a chance of being Oskar von Xylander? My abilities to identify faces are a weak spot. Thanks for your help! Cheers, taube. PS: Wibel could be on the photo as well. Edited September 2, 2013 by taube
arb Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Taube, Very nice photo! I think it is Oskar von Xylander. I compared the photo in Biblio's 3rd volume of the series "Die Ritter des Ordens Pour le mérite des I. Weltkrieges", page 583 and they are the same man. Andy
taube Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 Andy, thanks very much for looking it up and your confirmation. There is very little photo evidence found on the web so your info is much apprecited!
M Hunter Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 his medal bar.... I believe this impressive grouping belonged to Rudolf Ritter von Xylander, not Oskar. Best wishes Matt
