IrishGunner Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 A common aspect of soldier life... Gulasch and slang phrases. Post your images of soldiers having meals in the field.
IrishGunner Posted October 16, 2013 Author Posted October 16, 2013 I remember the Erbsensuppe, yummy! Exactly! And the bean soup out of the Gulaschkanone! European armies do this right; unfortunately, not a real tradition of the US Army.
Naxos Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 The Gulaschkanone was the highlight of any Herbstmanöver. However, you had to resist eating the apples off the trees (I'm sure you know why)
Kornel R. Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I can't find already any with soldiers by eating , by think some with field kitchens counts ...
Kornel R. Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 plus if you guys mind ... "organic" meat supply and Russian prisoners of war expecting their "bowl" ... best regards Kornel perhaps I should have something more in my photo collection , but isn't easy to find
Odulf Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 A very rare photocard of a British mobile kitchen on the march (and cooking) in 1912
Odulf Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Some postcards with German field kitchens and Gulashkanonen
Odulf Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Another important foodstuff was bread... This was baked in large field bakeries. Here stages of the process have been recorded in a series of picture posttcards
Kornel R. Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Amazing Odulf ! especially these fahrbaren Feldbackoefen ( but not only of course ) and photos/ postcards representing the whole process of baking . best regards Kornel
IrishGunner Posted October 20, 2013 Author Posted October 20, 2013 Bakery photos are great... Peeling potatoes for the Gulaschkanone...
Odulf Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 (edited) Thanks guys, I have many more but from a later period. I found another pc-size photo of a British mobile field kitchen, however here the stove is rather more used as a prop for a rather large mixed bag of soldiers, perhaps members of a training course? We see badges of: Canadians, Middlesex Rgt, Glouchestershire Rgt., Wiltshire Regt., Cheshire Rgt., RE, etc... But, as usual, when you closely watch the idividuals, you will note interesting details, such as the moneybelt of the guy who holds the funnel. Edited October 21, 2013 by Odulf
Chris Boonzaier Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I am worried by Odulf's food obsession.......
Odulf Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I am worried by Odulf's food obsession....... It's the obsession of all service personnel as, according to Napoleon, an army marches on it's stomach
Odulf Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Another German field bakery, the photo is dated "Im Westen 3/11/16"
