Elinesterado Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Hi there Relatively new to collecting and this badge turned up in a lot bought at auction in the UK. I have researched the obvious Luftwaffe sites and consulted books such as Ailsby, but am no nearer identifying it. Exactly what is the eagle clutching in its talons? A fire hose? A reel of adding machine tape? Is it a repro since it appears quite roughly cast? Any help would be appreciated.
Leuchtturm Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Hi there, the badge is the Nskk motorsports badge, has nothing to do with Luftwaffe. I think this badge is a copy, because the quality isn´t that that good. Best wishes Chris
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Its not Luftwaffe, it is the 1938 Motorsport Abzeichen, best Chrs
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Everything said. It's a fake That on top of it ;-) I once had an original in my hands... I think it safe to say an original is one of the best quality badges the 3rd Reich produced.
utopis Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Indeed, very high quality pieces and of course very rare with less than five hundred awarded in all classes. But these badges are not very sought after. Well Motorsports probably isn't that appealing to collectors or at least not as much as political/ military awards are. A bronze one should be purchasable at 3000-3500 euros. This one is obviously representing a silver one.
Odulf Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Two German racing car drivers, Hermann Lang and Messerschmitt (?) wearing the badge
