Carol I Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I would appreciate your help with translating the text on these old photographs, as well as any other details you could provide. Thank you in advance.
Carol I Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 What kind of uniforms are these? High school? Civil service?
JapanX Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 (edited) Post #2 High -school/student uniforms Text reads Chronicle of 1915 In times of "great European war" In memory of sad separation in this bright and warm May we decided to take a picture of ourselves; before long this short-term friendship died away. Carol I Posted September 27, 2014 Author Posted September 27, 2014 Thank you for the translation. Too bad you could not read the town or the addresses. M. M. Glovetz lived in Romania after the 1918 union of Bessarabia and Bukovina with the country and used the name Mihail Glavatzchi. It would have been interesting to see whether he was a native of Bessarabia or of another place.
JapanX Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Too bad you could not read the town or the addresses. Name of the location in post #3 reads Хот. г. I think it stands for Khotinskiy county (Хотинский уезд) Khotinskiy county was in Bessarabia province (Бессарабская губерния) Some small place Efshtsy (Ефшцы) in Khotinskiy county.

I know where Khotyn is. In Romanian is known as Hotin and it has an old fortress of the Principality of Moldavia.
Carol I Posted July 26, 2019 Author Posted July 26, 2019 Two more photos surfaced from the Bessarabian branch of the family. I would appreciate if you can help with a translation of the written legend on the back of one of them. P.S. I am a rather disconcerted by how quickly the time passes. I thought I posted the previous pictures only a couple of years ago, only to discover that almost 5 years have passed.
Egorka Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Inscription: I present this photo card to dear Klavusya for good memory of my little sister Liza. Devoted to you Mishunya. Signature 28 June 1915 village Ryshkovka. Klavusya = Klavdiya ; Mishunya = Mikhail
Carol I Posted July 31, 2019 Author Posted July 31, 2019 Thanks a lot Egorka! It seems that Mihail Glavatzchi's sister, Liza, worked as a nurse in the Ryshkovka (army?) hospital during the war.
Bayern Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Hello, the man seated on the first photo wears the typical russian doctors hospital robe with short or rolledup sleeves
