Bernhard H.Holst
Hello readers. I am in need of assistance regarding a QSA campaign medal with clasps - South Africa 1901, - Wittebergen, - Transvaal, - Cape Colony. The rim bears the name 8718 PTE C.P. Grindley, Scots CDS. My questions because for me unknown collection area: - is this a likely combination? - what does Scots CDS stand for? And lastly would this be desireable? Price given as Euro 180. Thank you for any help. Bernhard H. Holst Edited January 6, 2015 by Bernhard H.Holst
QSAMIKE
Hello Bernard...... Looks ok to me...... The unit is Scots Guards....... Should be a GDS Not a bad price for a Guards Brigade medal....... This medal would be Impressed Naming and not Engraved........ Mike Hello readers. Pylon1357
Mike, you beat me to it. Agreed 100% likely Scots GDS not CDS.
paul wood
Just looked at it on line, looks nice, certainly not a bad buy at 180 euros.Paul
Bernhard H.Holst
Hello: A thank you to all who responded so quickly. Another look at the photo of the rim inscription would allow a G rather than a C. I have made some purchases from Straube Orden in Germany with whom this medal is listed and have been satisfied in every respect. Thanks again. Bernhard H. peter monahan
Even if it does read 'CDS', errors in naming are not unknown. A nice find if it is to the Guards.
Michael Johnson
The Rolls confirm the clasps, with the notation "With 3rd Bn." (the roll is for the 2nd Bn.). Probably a reinforcement. Michael
