larsb001 Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Hello all. I have just bought this at a local auction. Although I collect miniatures only there's a few full size items I'd like to have, this is one of them. Everything felt right, but after having read this topic: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/2570-1914-clasp-to-1870-ek/ started by Gordon I'm not so sure, I didn't really realise that there were so many copies around. As I haven't paid yet I'd be happy to get some opinions from the more experienced friends in here, any comments? Lars
kasle Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Cross is notorious Ninth Bead fake, for sure. The 25 jubileum clasp is not good as well. I can´t comment on 1914 clasp, but in ths configuration I wouldn´t put any hope in it.
larsb001 Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 Hello both. Thank you for your comments although this was not the answer I was hoping for. If any other would like to throw in a comment, ie beeing a little more specific of what to look for this would be appreciated. Again, thank you for your help, Lars
kasle Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Try this http://www.medalnet.net/iron_cross_1870.htm Article starts with original pieces, but ends up with description of Ninth Bead Fake.
larsb001 Posted February 13, 2015 Author Posted February 13, 2015 Thanks Kasle, I do know Andreas' site, but I never notished this article. Lars
Streptile Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 (edited) Hi Lars, Sorry to say the entire setup is bad. The WHS is the typical Wagner fake but without the enamel. Here you can compare to an original (not mine but original nonetheless). Edited February 18, 2015 by Streptile
Eric K. Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Looks like the 25 jubilee and date on clasp looks like it's been hammered, like they're hiding something
larsb001 Posted February 20, 2015 Author Posted February 20, 2015 Thanks to all for the comments, this have been sorted out now. One day I would still like to have such a set, but original. Lars
