hucks216
As the photo mentions Crete in 1943 I wonder if he is a member of 22 (LL) Infanterie-Division as I know they fought in the Crimea and some components (Gren.Rgt 47 and II/Art.Rgt 22) fought in Africa as part of Kampfgruppe Buhse? Paul R
This is a great photo. Unusual uniform configuration for outside of Africa.
Bernhard H.Holst
Hello Paul.As Kevin ( hucks 216) mentioned above, some elements of the 22.Inf.Div. stationed on Crete were detached and sent to North Africa where they formed a Kampfgruppe ( Inf.Regt. 47 and artillery etc elements) under the command of Oberst Buhse ( Knights Cross ) The German troops stationed on Crete wore tropical uniforms. An uncle of mine who served in the arty regt.22 of that division from before the war throughout the duration certainly wore tropical uniform as photos show.Bernhard H.
