Bryan Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Thanks for sharing your group with us Gerd. Very nice group and the first I see mounted like this with the sino-soviet medal! What's interesting is the wear of the Soviet medals ribbons and the sino-soviet medal. I guess the vet coulnd't find replacement ribbons for is Chinese medal so he only changed teh Soviet ones on the medal bar. Thanks again!
Gerd Becker Posted March 16, 2006 Author Posted March 16, 2006 I am glad, you like it, Bryan. Yes, the old faded ribbon was something, i noticed immediately. The ribbon is most probably still the old one. Its also for me the first SSFM, that i see mounted. Gerd
Stogieman Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Hi Gerd, pretty nice group, especially with the Friendship Medal mounted like that. I've only seen them loose/cased, never one mounted before!
Gerd Becker Posted March 16, 2006 Author Posted March 16, 2006 (edited) Thanks, Rick. That was the reason, why i bought it. Before i ordered it, i considered two groups and asked Rick Research for help. Everything, what was in his anwer-pm was:"CHINESE! CHINESE! " Except one other very expensive group on CollectRussia and another one(don?t remember, where), this is only the third mounted SSFM, i have seen. Gerd Edited March 16, 2006 by Gerd Becker
Guest Rick Research Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 For me, that this SSFM is in a DOCUMENTED group is a first, and of special interest is the legal fiction that the Sergeant "resigned" from the Soviet Army...went on a little "sightseeing" tour...and then came right "back" to the very unit he had left. That is a FIRST. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
Gerd Becker Posted March 17, 2006 Author Posted March 17, 2006 For me, that this SSFM is in a DOCUMENTED group is a first, and of special interest is the legal fiction that the Sergeant "resigned" from the Soviet Army...went on a little "sightseeing" tour...and then came right "back" to the very unit he had left. That is a FIRST. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Well, thats great. I wasn?t aware, that this is such a special case. Any idea, how many soviets were "on vacation" in Korea? And how did this work usually? Were any of them openly there or where they all kind of "undercover"?So, if i speculate, this guy was a Radio-Specialist or something similar and went to Korea to train Korean Soldiers on radios or whatever!? They were only Advisors, right?Do you can see, when he was drafted? The unnumbered MMM is (a little delayed) for Long-Service, right?Should i try to get both citations for the MMM?s though? Thanks, man
Gerd Becker Posted March 17, 2006 Author Posted March 17, 2006 I completely forgot to add the document for the SSFM. So, here it is:
Guest Rick Research Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 As a radio detection finder, he would have been in an anti-aircraft RADAR unit...waiting to shoot down United Nations planeswhen World War THREE started.
Gerd Becker Posted March 17, 2006 Author Posted March 17, 2006 As a radio detection finder, he would have been in an anti-aircraft RADAR unit...waiting to shoot down United Nations planeswhen World War THREE started. Thats exactly, what i was hoping for Lets see, if research brings even more to light Thanks so much again, Rick.Gerd
Gerd Becker Posted April 19, 2006 Author Posted April 19, 2006 I got this reply over at the WAF from member 81redstar:"The group and the mounting of the sino=soviet friendship medal is very nice.According to the document,it says Baktybai Zholmukanov helped the building of the special branches[armor, aviation, chemical etc] of Chinese people's liberation army.He might be a trainning staff.i wonder is the star a soviet army star"Another bit of information
Rocky Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Gerd, a very nice example also the first I have seen mounted. Thanks for sharing.
Gerd Becker Posted April 20, 2006 Author Posted April 20, 2006 Thanks, Matt. That is a beautiful example, you have there. Can you post a scan of the document to see, if its filled? Especially the case is very nice Gerd
Rocky Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Gerd there is also a photo 3 up of the inside of the case and the document; however, that may to small to tell anything so here is a large one I know you will be able to read. I am not sure if it is positioned correctly. Until yesterday I had forgoteen I had this medal. Your medal is the first I have ever seen mounted. [attachmentid=35392]
Stogieman Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 That's a great set Matt. I don't think you could get any cleaner.
Guest Rick Research Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 That is upside down. The cover opens on the left side so what is below are pages 3, 2, and 1 since they go right to left. This is the LATEST dated document I have ever heard of. Can't help with the name since all I can read are the dates: [attachmentid=35410]
Rocky Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Stogie, thank you. Rick, let me send another view. I was not sure of the orientation but now I am thank you. The paper of the document is like watered silk.
Rocky Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Rick, I hope this works because in addition to not being able to scan this document I think I am dyslexic [attachmentid=35416]
