LarryT Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Hi, I recently managed to purchase two photos showing a Chaplain presiding over a KM funeral. There is no writing on the back of the photos. There are a lot of sombre faces in the photos. Here is the first one. Cheers, Larry Second photo. Closer view of Chaplain.
Odulf Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Interesting pictures Larry, a pitty there is no further information. The absence of a stola on the uniform of the Chaplain could indicate that he is a Protestant/Evangelical Minister.
GreyC Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 (edited) Hi Larry, can you read what´s on the cap tally ? It looks as though it´s not yet "Kriegsmarine" which would date the photo to before Sept. 5th 1939 and give infos with regard to the unit. On the other hand: There seem to be two sailors with Minensucherabzeichen which was awarded since 31th August 1940. So maybe the soldiers still wear their Minensuchboot-Halbflottile (or similar) cap tally (which in my opinion should have been replaced from 5th Sept. 1939 on). LarryT Posted February 23, 2017 Author Posted February 23, 2017 Thanks Odulf and GreyC for your comments. The men are wearing "Kriegsmarine" cap tallies and most wear Minensucherabzeichen. At least two are wearing EK 2 ribbons. I was thinking the location could be somewhere in Norway? Some close-ups showing more details. Cheers, Larry
GreyC Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 So the photo is post August 1940. There seems to be text on the wreath bow. Illegible? GreyC

Very Nice KM Chaplain Photos You sharing With us.Looks to be in Norway. Can You Please make a KM Chaplain Thread LarryT?? Best from Norway ,Morten.
LarryT Posted February 25, 2017 Author Posted February 25, 2017 Hi Morten, I could make a KM Chaplain thread but I only have these two photos. Does somebody have any more to post? I do have a few Heer Chaplain photos in my collection. According to Angola & Schlicht's "Die Kriegsmarine - Uniforms & Traditions Vol. 2" the collar patches in my photos are of the M1942 pattern. Odulf is correct in stating the Chaplain is of the Protestant/Evangelical faith as there is no Stola worn and no "Christ" on his cross. See scans from the book. Cheers, Larry And
