    Recipient Order of Yugoslav Star

    Recommended Posts

As far as I know complete lists of recipient don't exist or to be more precise they are not available to the public.
There can't be many Indonesian recipients of that order, I can try digging up names in the Official Gazette but can't promise anything.
Is it in a box? I ask because name of the order should be inscribed on it. Until 1961 it was called Order of the Yugoslav Star 2nd Class, later Order of the Yugoslav Star with Golden Wreath. Total number of recipients until the end of 1985 was 320.
Could you maybe post couple of photos of the order?

Hi Paja, thank you very much for the information. ;)

It's now can be narrowed down to 4 people.

There's also Order of St Sylvester Commander Class and Grand Cross of Spanish Isabella La Catolica with it. So most likely the recipient is General LB Moerdani is the owner. But of course I have to search more to make it sure.

Attached is the picture of the Order of Yugoslav Star 2nd class that I mean.

You are welcome, I'm not done with research, there might have been other recipients as well.
Thanks showing us the order, we can see coat of arms with five torches on the back side of the badge so we're dealing with earlier variant, after 1963 it had six torches.
Generally speaking I think it's possible someone received order with five torches over a decade after the change, especially because this particular order was pretty rarely awarded.

Dragomir, thank you for taking the time to transliterate and post the whole list of recipients. I noticed you added FRY-era holders of the Grand Yugoslavian Star to it: Akihito, Carlo Azzeglio Ciampi, Ion Iliescu and Peng Li. According to Wikipedia article Akihito was awarded in 2002.

I've been going through the Official Gazette and I think lists of recipients weren't being published in 1951-1967 period. Although to be honest I didn't check every single number...

Stojan Rudež wrote that one Order of the Yugoslav Star 1st Class was awarded to Indonesian citizen in 1958. Perhaps some lower classes were awarded at that time as well.

I'm not completely sure but it seems Gaddafi was awarded with both SFRY and FRY era Grand Yugoslavian Star.
According to Wikipedia article he received Yugoslavian Star (26 October 1999), I presume it had to be Grand Yugoslavian Star. There's an article on B92 website which states he was awarded with medal "Grand Star" (medalja "Velika zvezda")...

Prime Minister Djuanda Kartawidjaja being awarded with the Yugoslav Flag 1st Class during Tito's visit to Indonesia in 1958.

The rest of the photos from the Museum of Yugoslav History website, perhaps members of Kartawidjaja's cabinet? It seems like they all received Yugoslav Flag 1st class. Like I said before Rudež mentions that one Indonesian citizen received Yugoslav Star 1st class in 1958, that probably happened during the same visit.

Wow Paja, thank you very much. Those photos are proof that Soekarno and Tito were really close back then. Guerilla Star is rarely awarded to foreign leaders. Usually Soekarno gave Bintang RI Adipurna (RI Star 1st class) for foreign leaders

One of the criteria of Guerilla star is that the recipient had been struggled in a war (as a guerilla) to gain or protect the independency of the country.

You are welcome. Tito was indeed decorated with the Star of the Republic of Indonesia 1st class (Bintang RI Adipurna) in 1961 but also with the Sacred Star (Bintang Sakti) in 1960. I'll see if I can dig up some photos.
BTW I have found more Indonesian recipients of the Yugoslav decorations, if you wish I can post their names.

Paja and Dragomir, thank you very much for the photos. Amazing research gentlemens!

And I just knew from you that a Sacred Star/Bintang Sakti was awarded to a foreigner, and it's Tito. Sacred Star/Bintang Sakti usually given to Indonesian military personnel for bravery act against enemy. Well, so this one must be special.
