Farkas
Hi Bayern I like it. Reservists - they do look more like men than boys.... cheers tony 16 hours ago, Bayern said: Perhaps they are reservists recalled , It appears as Autumm . the absence of numbers on the helmet covers and the litzen on collar and cuffsmade think in a Garde Unit . Bayern
Hi tony, I venture reservists , early in the war , reserve, by the apparent age . early in the war by the uniforms 1907 1910 and the natural coloured boots and leather items. Garde by the expressed and by the rifles . M1898 .

Bayern
Hello , the first man wears on the collar of his greatcoat the doppelitzen, double lights of Garde and some technical troops . the number 267 on his SBs ,marks him as belonging to Reserve Infanterie Regiment 267 a unit raised in 1914 from the Infanterie Regiment 14. but the uniform dont carried litzen . the second man ,seated ,must be a vizefeldwebel , he wears leggings and officers type peaked cap and leather gloves. The Prussian
Hello! Unfortunatey you are wrong withb the first one... RIR 267 was set up by: Staff: Ers.Btl./Füs.Rgt.34 I.Btl.: Feld-Inf.Btl.34 II.Btl.: Feld-Inf.Btl. 8 III.Btl. Feld-Inf.Btl. 10 The 2.Ers.Btl./Inf.Rgt. 14was only responsible for the Ersatz BUT! I see a 261 and not a 267 upon his SB. RIR 261 was set-up by Garde-Feld-Inf.Rgt. 1, 2 and 3 It had its own Ersatz-Bataillon So it all fits Edited November 3, 2018 by The Prussian
Bayern
Hello , I was mistaked about the parent unit of the RIR 267 by a book . Cocerning to the BUT, if is 261 all fits as you said . Cheers
Farkas
Hi Gents I had actually put these here together because 3 had the numbers on the collar tabs and #3 belongs with #1... i was going to say what I thought they were but just couldn’t decide However I thought (!) #1 was 267 - but see the 1 now.... I was sure #2 was 135 I thought #4 was 255 or 235 So today.... I agree #1 is 261 2 is 136 or 236 3 I now think is 253 or 255 I’ll probably see different tomorrow tony

(Or even 4komp) on the right I hope you like it Gents tony

Farkas
Hi Gents I spotted this in a ‘job lot’ To me , it is a photo of..... (Please pardon my usual optimism/enthusiasm) A partly collapsed airship, in flight, photographed from above, at altitude or in cloud , Of course maybe not ...Any musings Gents? tony

Farkas
Hi Gents 3 I have that all caught my eye yesterday for one reason or another.... ———-/————//- This first one I liked, mainly, because they actually look happy and of course his medal bar. If he’s 80 in 1927 then he was born in 1847... Perhaps a Veteran of the Franco Prussian war? ——////———- This one is different to anything else I have. The front is glossy, like plastic and reminds me of a film negative. And smaller than Rppc size. dated 2-9-1916 I was surprised to see from the reverse , that it has not been cut down in size. It is to all effect a smaller version of a full card. And, I’d say, it’s not reproduced from a larger original. The impression of the circular post stamp, as well as some of the writing, is visible in relief on the front. ——//———- this 3rd one is a snapshot... dated 1 March 1917 Peter Banes (I beleive) I can’t get over how ‘chilled’ he appears... Cheers Gents tony Hi GreyC On 12/12/2018 at 14:50, GreyC said: Shot down over the English Channel by 2nd (German) Torpedoboot-Zerstörer Flottille (small vessel between torpedoboat and destroyer) GreyC Thanks for the above info... i spent ages googling British airship losses last night. All new to me. However, more questions than answers. I beleive this is a rigid frame airship. Gondolier to the fore. Brits only had one that saw action and none reported lost. There were quite a few other airships designs used mainly for shipping protection but the appearance doesnt match. They ere more like balloons. ‘Gasbags’ were over the channel but this looks, as I said, like a Rigid Frame Airship... supposedly none were lost..... Thanks again GreyC tony
GreyC
Hi, 2nd card: Wants to know if mother has sent him money 3rd card: I think the name is Baues. Compare the "n" in "Untf." They usually, but not always distinguished u and n by a horizontal stroke above the letter, that is missing here above the "u". GreyC PS: It would help considerably if the cards with writing on them would be posted in the right angle to read them, not in a 90 degree angle. I think the first is a lovely portrait and the second is physically rather odd.... cheers tony
GreyC
Thank you, that helps. What´s i tersting with the 2nd crd is that it seems to originate in New York, was mailed from Cologne by a Saxon to his mother in Saxony. Now at that time the US was still neutral, so maybe it was a photographic gimmick invented in the US and exported to Germany where some German photo studio had it on offer. Yes GreyC, the ‘n’ is so clear in ‘Unft’ ( I thought it was Unff!), totally unlike the ‘u’.... nice tony
