IrishGunner
GreyC/Bayern, I also noticed the rolled-up shoulder straps and thought it odd. Grey's theory of recruits rolling them up as a way of celebrating obligatory service makes sense. Although, it's the first time I've seen it in one of these Rekrutenzeit photos. GreyC
Hi Irish Gunner, glad you agree with me. There are quite a few photos around of the like seen above. Haven´t categorized them or key-worded them in my collection. So I´ll have a hard time accessing them. I do have a few of them, though. Here is another one of a etamäßiger Feldwebel of Saxon Regiment 106 with dog. Note the typical "German" cuffs on the tunic and the mourning band. GreyC
Hi, the first two words are Editha Carls (zur Erinnerung an den 4. Juli 1908). That´s the name of a lady that this photo was dedicated to in remembrance of the day the photo was taken so I presume she is one of the ladies in the pic. The 4th soldier from the left, last row, is a naval officer. GreyC Edited August 6, 2018 by GreyC

IrishGunner
The Feuerwehr photo is great! I've been getting a lot of new artillery photos lately; guess I should just off the scanner.
GreyC
Hi, nice pix! Especially the Firefighters. The guy with the lantern is group-chief. Hermann sent the card (that he says turned out well) to his girlfriend or wife with "hot kisses". An appropriate choice of words for a firefighter! Farkas
Hi IrishGunner, GreyC... Thanks both for your comments.... it is a good one isn’t it, a little bit different to my usual ones, I was well chuffed when I found it. 22 hours ago, IrishGunner said: The Feuerwehr photo is great! Farkas
Hi Gents First is posted home and dated 9th sept 1917 i’ve the colour up a little on the image.... I think this card was is titled soldiers in cover or similar, and the image seems somewhat older than when the card was written.... A 1917 Rppc annotated by ‘Oscar’ I think. 3 Iron Cross holders to the left, one of whom, I believe has musician shoulder insignia. And a picture in the snow, sadly nothing on the back. tony

GreyC
Nice! As the Matrosen wear cap tallies with Werft Division on them, the photo should have been taken either in Kiel (1st) or in Wilhelmshaven (2nd). Farkas
Hi Gents I believe the caption reads .... ‘The Russians have completely destroyed almost all the railroad tracks that lie on the Berlin-Warsaw route. our picture shows us a German patrol, which investigates the railroad track’ ————///———-// this next one shows the handing out of bayonet frogs. Freshly trained perhaps? Yet I think the flowers mean these men are about to deploy.... tony
Bayern
Perhaps they are reservists recalled , It appears as Autumm . the absence of numbers on the helmet covers and the litzen on collar and cuffsmade think in a Garde Unit .
