Thats it, it is to a VFW from the feldluftschiffer trupp 5 attached to the newly formed Gas Regiment, awarded 4 days after the attack.... maybe they were observing from their balloons.

Hello , Yes the 35 Pionier Regiment was the first unit specialized in Gas warfare . It was called also Peterson Regiment for the name of the first commander, the Regiment with two Bataillons comprised apart of the gas operating Coys a Meteorological and a Radiotelegraphic Section .probably VFW Schmitt was in charge of the Meteorological .
