Peter J Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 Gents, I just received this medal from a recent auction buy, but I can't say it made me happy. After some additional research on the web, I came up with these specifications: 28mm, silver or silvered bronze and suppsedly die-struck, weight 12-13g. The piece I received is clearly cast, the weight 6,77g without ribbon ring and apparently made in some white metal. Any or all info needed to convince the seller it's a fake (IMHO) would be greatly appreciated. cheers Peter
Schießplatzmeister Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 Hello Peter, I can't really comment on originality based upon what I presently see. However, it looks like there may be a line around the center of the edge. This is usually indicative of a piece being a galvano or possibly a cast copy. Could you provide better photos of the edge? Thank you,
922F Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 (edited) Besides casting line and open ribbon suspension ring [which in fairness could be passed off as a replacement ring], details like facial hair lines & apparently muddy engraver's name. Medal attachment ring seems blundered too. Enlarged images would help in determination. Edited February 2, 2021 by 922F spelchek
Peter J Posted February 2, 2021 Author Posted February 2, 2021 Thanks guys. I've got minor problems with my scanner, but the casting line is definitely present (my finger-nail gets stuck in it)! I thought the weight would close this case. cheers Peter
