03fahnen Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Good morning gentlemen, I ask for your help in identifying this general. 1
Glenn J Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 I would think Generalleutnant Albert Schöpflin. Regards Glenn 1
Deutschritter Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Sadly, another General which the internet has forgotten ... one can find hardly more than the name.
03fahnen Posted November 6, 2021 Author Posted November 6, 2021 Glenn confirmed, This is Generalleutnant Albert Schöpflin. Only you are able to see what we had in front of our noses. 1
03fahnen Posted November 7, 2021 Author Posted November 7, 2021 Through the "Rang-Listen" I have been able to see a little the evolution of his military cart. Rang-Liste 1886 P.Leutnant Rang-Liste 1893 Hptm. Rang-Liste 1900 Major Rang-Liste 1902 Oberstlt Rang-Liste 1904 Oberst Rang-Liste 1910 Gen.Maj. And finally in the book "Verzeichnis der Mitglieder der Offiziervereinigung des 8. Württ. Inf. Regi. No. 126 Großherzog Friedrich von Baden" you can see the last degree achieved: General der Infanterie
Deutschritter Posted November 7, 2021 Posted November 7, 2021 (edited) This is great, thank you. I read, he led the 45. Reserve-Division (Sächsische) until 1917?! Surely EK II and I ... probably also Kronenorden (PKO1)? In your nice picture, he seems to be standing in front of his Gutshaus ... do you know where? Edited November 7, 2021 by Deutschritter

Surely EK II and I ... probably also Kronenorden (PKO1)? In your nice picture, he seems to be standing in front of his Gutshaus ... do you know where? The 45. Reserve-Division was not Saxon. It was originally recruited in Pommern, Westpreußen and from the Hanseatic Cities of Hamburg and Bremen. Albert Schöpflin (27.10.1853-14.12.1934) received the KO1 when he retired in 1913. He received the Swords to the KO1 in 1916. Among other war decorations, he also received the Hanseatenkreuze of Hamburg and Bremen. Perhaps his most significant distinction, at least from our perspective on this forum, is that he received the silberne Militär-Karl-Friedrich-Verdienstmedaille on 15.2.1871 as a Musketier in the 4. badisches Infanterie-Regiment and the Kommandeurkreuz mit Stern of the Militär-Karl-Friedrich-Verdienstorden on 31.7.1915 as Generalleutnant z.D. and commander of the 45. Reserve-Division. If I remember correctly, he and Lt.d.R. Hermann Pfeifer are the only recipients of the officer and enlisted versions of Baden's highest military honor (Pfeifer received the silver medal in 1916 as a Vfw. in Fokkerstaffel AOK3 and the knight's cross in 1917 as a Lt.d.R. in Jasta 9). He is also my (very distant) cousin. 2
Glenn J Posted November 7, 2021 Posted November 7, 2021 General Schöpflin's career is detailed in various Offizier-Stammlisten, this from Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 53, He retired from pre-war active service effective 17 February 1913 from his position as the commander of 33. Division. His residence in Metz was at Ponceletstrasse 13 (13 Rue Poncelet). The photo dates after his 15 May 1912 award of the star to his Red Eagle Order 2nd class with oak leaves. Regards Glenn 1
03fahnen Posted November 7, 2021 Author Posted November 7, 2021 Again, thank you very much Glenn, fantastic Thanks Dave Danner for your clarifications.
Deutschritter Posted November 7, 2021 Posted November 7, 2021 Gentlemen, unbelievable, thanks so much! So he did take part in the war of 1870/71?! Not even Deutscher Ordens-Alamanch (1908) had that. I read here 45. Reserve-Division (Sächsische), now I see, they got it wrong. Glenn, have you ever NOT found something? ?
Dave Danner Posted November 7, 2021 Posted November 7, 2021 For the KDM, his regiment was entitled to the Spangen "AN DER LISAINE" and "STRASSBURG". For the Baden Felddienst-Auszeichnung, the Spange would be "1870-1871". 1
