hirmiestelio Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 This is my sole Soviet medal, and I really don't know much about them at all. I was sent this from someone in the Czech Republic and it came with this card. Would all campaign medals like this have been issued with a card like this? Is it something that states who was awarded it? Here is a picture showing the back: 1

hirmiestelio Posted February 1, 2022 Author Posted February 1, 2022 Wow . . . you mean his name is "Romanov Vladimir Nikolaevich"? Thanks so much! I am going to have to look into this!
chechaco1 Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 if you write which military commissariat awarded the medal, this is the first word of the blue inscription around the seal circle, you can try to calculate the cavalier. I reed. Tchernigov region, i to be look this soldier

Egorka Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 (edited) красноармеец Романов Владимир Николаевич 1911 private ROMANOV Vladimir Nikolaevich 1911 He was born in the village Nizovka, Chernigov region, Ukraine. The Victory medal was issued to him in 1947 by his local military commissariat in the town Shchors district (it existed during 1935-2016. Before and after the town name was/is Snovsk). It appears the veteran served in the 162 rifle division and was bestowed with Bravery Medal in January 1944 (unfortunately, the citation is not available online). Pitty. He also got his jubilee OPW1 in 1985. Edited February 5, 2022 by Egorka 1

Is the "Bravery Medal" a particular medal or just meaning a bravery award? IS this the same veteran (simply since his birth year is also listed as 1911)? http://podvignaroda.ru/?#id=1519347543&tab=navDetailManUbil
Egorka Posted February 7, 2022 Posted February 7, 2022 Any time! I meant a specific award - medal “FOR BRAVERY” or “FOR COURAGE”, depending on translation. The links you posted are to the same man mentioned in the document. Just different entries in different databases. 1

I appreciate the help, as I've never done Soviet or Russian anything, so this is very different for me and I know nothing about Soviet medals, either! Thanks for being so helpful! Oh, one more thing . . . what is the Russian name of the "For Bravery" medal? Or is that the name? Addition --- I just ran that last link I posted through Google Translate . . . does it say that he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st Class? 1
chechaco1 Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 the Order of the Patriotic War anniversary award from 11.03.1985, was given to all veterans, thereby dropping the importance of the respected military order. medal "For Bravery" in the picture, the highest medal of the Soviet Union.

Thanks so much for the information! So, that grey and blue ribboned medal is the highest Soviet award? I kind of expected something a little fancier!
Egorka Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Our colleague chechaco1 means it was the highest ranking medal, then there were orders with the higher rank. Though, I would argue, that - the Gold Star of the Hero of Soviet Union - the Gold Star of the Hero of Socialist Labour - the Gold Star of the Mother Heroine. were all medals, not orders. 1
chechaco1 Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 the combat award is not a vaudeville plaque, it is simple, severe and concise. The Gold Star Medal of the Hero of the Soviet Union, as well as the Hammer and Sickle medal of the Hero of Socialist Labor are not awards in themselves, the award is the Title of Hero, and the medal in the form of a star is the designation of this title, as well as the field marshal's baton, for example. 1
