norwest78 Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 Can anybody guess the location? I have not been able to find a match in Italy as of yet. --Kevin
GreyC Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 (edited) Hi, photo was taken after 27. September 1940 as you can see all flags of the Achsenmächte. Location somewhere in Italy, as the abbr. PNF stands for Partito Nazionale Fascista, the Italian Fascist Party. Maybe it is an official building of the party. Occasion seems to be a rememberance of Italian soldiers KIA, as the writing on the wreath indicates in German. GreyC Edited February 14, 2022 by GreyC 1
norwest78 Posted February 14, 2022 Author Posted February 14, 2022 Thank you for the reply, GreyC. That monument column is very large, and I'm hoping that someone will recognize it.
GreyC Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 I hought it might have been here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EUR,_Rome but I am not so sure. GreyC
v.Perlet Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 (edited) Hello norwest78 In regards to what other possible topic - aside from "wreath laying ceremony" did you come across these photos? Regards v.Perlet Edited February 15, 2022 by v.Perlet

Regards v.Perlet The photos initially caught my eye because of my interest in tropical/DAK attire. But there's clearly something of significance going on here. --Kevin
v.Perlet Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 (edited) The only place I found with that distinctive facade cladding - the size of the panels would also match, seems to be the ex Mussolini party building/structure in Turin near the Piazza Vittorio Veneto Torino I do admit that this 2 story building with the Japanese flag - kind of disturbs the idea with Turin. However I simply can't find a photo depicting a column or structure still standing in today's Italy that would resemble the one on the photos. I am just giving it a try? norwest78 Posted February 17, 2022 Author Posted February 17, 2022 Thank you for taking the time to do some digging. Nothing conclusive yet. As you, I suspect the original site is much different today.
norwest78 Posted March 23, 2022 Author Posted March 23, 2022 I found a few more photos of this event. Perhaps one might help solve the puzzle.
Bayern Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 Brindisi ,Monumento ai Caduti della Prima Guerra Mondiale. that is the Monument to the fallen in WW1 . Why ? because it looks as it. the Germans are of the Afrika Korps just arrived by the Uniforms . Brindisi was one of the Ports for the shipment of troops to Africa .
norwest78 Posted March 24, 2022 Author Posted March 24, 2022 Thanks "Bayern." I searched Brindisi and I didn't not find a monument that was quite the style of the size of the one in my photos. I'll keep looking.
Bayern Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 Search again the monument on your photos is not as massive as that of Milano . the Brindisi Monument was neglected many years and recently was restaurated
