Megan Posted January 28 Posted January 28 In the UK, you may ACCEPT whatever you like but you need permission to WEAR it... although this really only applies to service personnel wanting to wear foreign awards in uniform. Technically anyone should request permission to wear but it isn't enforced.
T0deswanderer Posted January 28 Posted January 28 (edited) Yes different countries have different wordings on rules for this matter and how they are enforced, I’m just saying that it might be that the VGO Kraina doesn’t really want to bother hiring a Polish a British a Spanish an Italian a German etc lawyer to explain them the particularities of local laws, and they just don’t publish the data if there’s any regulations that may or may not hinder the receiver of the award from wearing/accepting the award You and I may say ‘Kraina’ is not an organisation of highest order, but I doubt any Polish court has ever ruled on the issue, and Kraina might just play it safe and not publish the data for certain countries , and if it’s only to save them having to pay a lawyer . Or in Britain, technically by the wording of law you need permission from the King to accept and wear foreign awards, again , no one enforces that . But an organisation like Kraina certainly doesn’t want to bother with the intricacies of laws in so many countries and just play it safe just my 2cnts Edited January 28 by T0deswanderer
Rocket Posted January 29 Posted January 29 (edited) My wife and I just received word from the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv that our son Andrew Peters has been awarded the For Our Freedom and Yours medal. Once we receive it in the mail I'll be sure to share some detailed pics of it. John Edited January 29 by Rocket 4

I checked the website and confirmed that Andrew's the 6th person to be awarded the medal. I joked to my wife that it's too bad the serial number wasn't 007 since Andrew was a huge James Bond fan as you can see from his chest tattoo. lol 1

Megan Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Well-established state order: Order of Princess Olha (ОРДЕН КНЯГИНИ ОЛЬГИ) instituted on 15 August 1997 and awarded in three classes for service to Ukraine and society rendered by women. The one shown above is the Class 3.

Jock Auld Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Hmmm, I am slightly concerned that we in Europe might be sucked into a war that might benifit only America? I don't think we will win because we have completely underestimated the chosen enemy! You need only look at history to see how this will pann out! As for James Bond, good luck! Pelosi and Zelenski are war criminals? She must go to jail, and she might? 2
Megan Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Easy to say, but what do you suggest the civilised world should do about a nation that suddenly invades another sovereign state? Just let them? But this is getting too political. Let's get back to Ukranian medals, please. 1
T0deswanderer Posted February 7 Posted February 7 What Body gives the Brother for Brother medal? on top of pic , bottom is the gold cross of the commander of the army Like here in this link and here https://eng.lsm.lv/article/society/society/08.09.2023-latvian-nurse-gets-ukrainian-state-award.a523186/ it seems to be an award for international soldiers it’s listed on English Wikipedia as state award but not Ukrainian Wikipedia so I don’t think it’s an official state award, it’s not on the Krayina website award list either 1
Megan Posted February 8 Posted February 8 What is the Krayina website? All I found was an Ukrainian insurance company... the word in Ukrainian (Країна) means "country" or "land". There's also a vinyard (in Ukraine) using that name for a tasty sounding white wine! I have found a weekly magazine called Країна published in Kyiv, wich deals with socio-political issues, but I've only found lists of issues, not a website.

If a Ukrainian army member does something brave, does his commander fill a form for state awards, another form for the defence ministry, one for the commander in chief and one for vgo Kraina , Heroldmaster, etc?

Most people don't understand this, so they don't see a particular problem. Of course, there are awards that are appreciated and desirable to receive, but they look at everything else as if the authorities gave it, so be it.
Megan Posted February 9 Posted February 9 It seems that some people approach medal awarding as my mother approached decorating a Christmas tree - the more the merrier! It is proving a bit of a nightmare to track and document everything that's being handed out, however. I'm just grabbing what information I can and hoping that I can make some kind of sense of it all.
Jock Auld Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Hopefuly the war will be over soon. Trump does not seem to be too enthused in that direction. Biden wanted to damage RF. He used up the brave Ukrainian soldiers. It is obvious however, just from a logistical stand point they will lose, the question is just how badly? This is not political it is just a military matter of fact apraisal. Zulu, a down vote, thats ok, but get yourself over there and show us how it is done, I doubt that though, just like the cowardly IRA? URA87, nominate me for your democratic 'Death List', I just hope they visit me at work. Enough young people on both sides have died over the last 12 years, Ukraine does not need to be mobilising 18 year olds to 24 year olds, if they are winning, without good reason. I certianly dont want my kids or grandkids dying for Nulands proxy war. I hope you all enjoy the new badges spawned by this catatstrophe but it is truly sad this was not resolved by deplomacy. Sorry, after 8 operational tours, various, I am now a pacifict. Megan, it is a lot easier to say since I originally posted. What are we to do if Greenland is invaded, together with, Canada, Mexico, Panama, and Gaza strip? Strange times we are living? Rich
Ura87 Posted February 14 Author Posted February 14 Two awards of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Council "For Loyalty to the State" (За відданість державі) and "For Loyalty to the State and Personal Contribution to Bringing Victory Closer" (За відданість державі та особистий внесок у наближення перемоги) I don't know what the difference is between them, but both are awarded to military personnel.
Megan Posted Saturday at 10:13 Posted Saturday at 10:13 Jock, please keep your political opinions to yourself. This whole board, and certainly this thread, is for talking about militaria. I come here to discuss medals. I too have strong opinions about Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but I talk about those in more appropriate places and do not intend to discuss them here, thank you. 2

I won't say anymore on the matter, I just urge you to think of the people dying on both sides so you can discuss the militaria generated. A tragic lack of diplomacy, seemingly now being rectified.

I have a family member who's currently serving with the International Legion for the Defense of Ukraine. What medals or awards might he be eligible for? The medal for military service to Ukraine? I hope he comes home safely!
ChrisKelly Posted Monday at 01:57 Posted Monday at 01:57 (edited) This is for Rocket: I'd like to express my heartfelt condolences. What an irreplaceable loss. His courage means he may be gone, but never forgotten. This should remind all of us what these medals can cost someone, especially those who remain behind. Medals are never an adequate compensation for a human life. He died doing something he believed in, knowing the risks involved, and he went the full measure. I respect that completely. You have my admiration and appreciation for raising a fine son, and a brave soldier. https://www.armytimes.com/news/your-military/2023/02/27/us-army-veteran-killed-fighting-in-ukraine/?fbclid=IwAR1yeWHEQhO-Ycgp317oKPd6SqVQW2rG4_DvV0oXby2fpg4vQuTvqf7guu0&contentFeatureId=f0fmoahPVC2AbfL-2-1-8&contentQuery={"includeSections"%3A"%2Fhome"%2C"excludeSections"%3A""%2C"feedSize"%3A10%2C"feedOffset"%3A1025} https://merrillfotonews.com/stories/merrill-native-travels-to-washington-dc-to-accept-ukrainian-medal-awarded-posthumously-to-his-son,183164 Edited Monday at 17:49 by ChrisKelly 2
Jock Auld Posted Tuesday at 12:20 Posted Tuesday at 12:20 (edited) I didn't realize he was killed. That is of course terrible and nothing can allieviate that pain. I understand he beleived in the cause just as I did when I was young. I am very anoyed he had to have this fate when a deal was on the table. He and over a million others on both sides will be mourned by millions of family members. All for something that could have been nipped in the bud early on. The sad thing is the result will be the same. Edited Tuesday at 12:21 by Jock Auld
