Avitas Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Hi folks,I picked up this Germany-Italy medal for the Afrika Korps and am very happy with it. The Afrika Korps is a fabled group and most items from it are way too expensive for collector's like me, so I am pleased to get one of these. I am confident it is an original but I would like your opinions on it just to have another set of eyes on it.Thanks again Pat
Avitas Posted May 6, 2006 Author Posted May 6, 2006 As you can see, a little bit of ver-de-gris but I think it adds character> Pat

Avitas Posted August 8, 2006 Author Posted August 8, 2006 A belated thanks for the ribbon Dan I will have to rescan it and post some new pics soon. I had always wanted one of these medals and when one popped up for a great deal no less, I had to pounce! I am glad it is a good one!Cheers,Pat
Paul R Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I am looking forward to seeing it, with the appropriate "clothing"!
Avitas Posted August 9, 2006 Author Posted August 9, 2006 For Dan and Paul and everyone who hates to see medals without ribbons, here are the new scans with the replacement ribbon. Much sharper display and it will do nicely until I find a nice original ribbon to add to it. Thanks for looking,Pat

Wartime Collectables Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Does anyone know how they came up with the two dudes with an alligator motif?
Marcus H Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 The two guys are gladiators (Germany and Italy) and the crocodile is the British (as we know Commonwealth, Greek etc etc forces too won the day), the croc like the python and lion were depicted in late Roman art fighting humans of some sorts, they were seen a powerful and dangerous adversaries 'threatening' man if you like as they'd eat you........the good being fighting for survival of course, man !So along these lines the Italian designer has incorperated this scene. A joint cooperation of Germany and Italy fighting the foe.Thats my take on it for the want of a better description.
