Igor Ostapenko Posted October 12, 2023 Author Posted October 12, 2023 I know . original medal , but lost crown … may be you can help me with Moniteur 1860 or 1861 yy ?
revolutie1830 Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Hello Igor, what are you looking for ? Maybe I can help you. Regarding your medal awarded to" ISERENTANT", you may find it above. I send you this yesterday. 🙂 1
VC89 Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Nice medals. Looks like those crowns break off easily. I was annoyed at myself when mine broke off but found that it happened in the past and was fixed poorly and on the wrong spot ... it's corrected now 😛 @revolutie1830: Where do you find those citations? I cant' find anything about the name on my medal.

revolutie1830 Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 Hello VC89. There's a study about these medals where you can find those names. You can also find them in "Moniteur Belge" - "Belgisch Staatsblad". Your medal should be a second class, the medal is gilded silver and the crown silver. Perhaps you can do some cleaning. He also received a silver medal (third class) for an other act of bravery in 1849. Greetings
VC89 Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 Thank Revolutie1830. I found what I was looking for. The medal is indeed made of silver, it has the mark of C.J. Buls (B above a wreath), looks like I forgot to mentioned that 🤭. The gilded part is lost over time but faintly visiable on the side. Kind regards, Vincent

Hello revolutie1830, The Moniteur Belge - Belgisch Staatsblad not being available where I am, I would be interested in the study mentioned above. Could you give some more details about it and where it can be acquired ? Regards, Hendrik
Hendrik Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 (edited) Hi revolutie1830, Thank you for the informative PM on the above question and your kind offer to furnish information on a few of the medals I have in my collection. Here's a first one, a silver-gilt 2nd class medal by Buls and its reverse reads : J.B. SCHRADER BRUXELLES 25 NOV. 1849 Regards, Hendrik Edited October 17, 2023 by Hendrik
Hendrik Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Hello Werner, Many thanks for the citation. Translated into English it goes like this : Schrader Jean-Baptiste, policeman, Brussels 25 November 1849. Silver Gilt. A woman had fallen, on 25 November 1849, around 11 o'clock at night, in a basin on a construction site; she had already disappeared under the water when policeman Schrader, drawn by the cries for help of this woman, jumped, fully clothed, into the water and managed through great exertions to rescue her. Shall we do another one ? This one is a 3rd class (silver) medal to J.F. Bombeek, Ichtegem 5 September 1847 : Regards, Hendrik
bilylev Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Hello, I have this nice small medal for years already. Would you be so kind and give me the details? Thank you. Jan

revolutie1830 Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Hello bilylev. As you can see and read, this one should be in gilded silver and the crown in silver (second class). His name was engraved in the wrong way, it should be Fenchère instead of Feuchère. Cheers, Werner 7 hours ago, Hendrik said: Hello Werner, Many thanks for the citation. As you have noticed, the head of Leopold I is smaller. Meaning that originally it was just a medal without crown. Perhaps you can check if this medal was mounted into a circle. Difficult to explaine in English for me. Otherwise send me a PM to explain this in Dutch. Werner 7 hours ago, Hendrik said: Hello Werner, Many thanks for the citation. revolutie1830 Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 If by any chanche someone would have information about Foreign Orders and Medals awarded to Belgians, I would be very interested. Werner 🙂
bilylev Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 (edited) Thank you very much. Of course, I got it some 20 years ago without ribbon. This replacement I gave it later. Jan Edited October 19, 2023 by bilylev

Hello Werner, Thanks for the Bombeck citation above. As to foreign awards to Belgians, I assume you are familiar with the US Medal of Freedom book by Peter Verstraeten ? A final citation request if I may ... 3rd class (silver) medal to G. WATTEEU Lede 20 July 1862. The name may be misspelled on the medal and missing a "W" at the end ... Regards, Hendrik

Hello again Werner, It is indeed a smaller (24 mm) 1837-49 type medal made wearable by adding the mural crown attachment - it hasn't been mounted in a circle. There is a silver mark in the rim (sword or dagger, I've never been sure as to what to call it 🙂). Regards, Hendrik

Indeed I know and have that publication by Peter Verstraeten. I am aware that its almost impossible but you know that sometimes Belgian groupings comes with a foreign medal or order. Maybe I will refraise my question later for a specific medal 😀 Regards, Werner 1
bilylev Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Hello Werner, would you be interested in names of Belgian recepients of Czechoslovak Order of White Lion? Regards Jan
