Glenn J Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 Ladies and gentlemen, this chap was photographed on the steps of Haus Doorn in the late twenties amongst a group of the the Kaiser's entourage. Does anyone recognise the uniform or even the officer himself? Thanks Glenn
VC89 Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 If you're certain it's at Huis Doorn you can try to contact the museum there (https://www.huisdoorn.nl/en/homepage/). Maybe they might recognize the picture and/or the person in it. Kind regards, Vincent
Trooper_D Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 (edited) Is it not a bit curious that the tunic buttons to the left? I did wonder, at first, whether the photo was shown in reverse but, on closer inspection, I think not. Edited November 26, 2023 by Trooper_D
Glenn J Posted November 27, 2023 Author Posted November 27, 2023 yes, it is a rather strange button configuration. And yes, I am certain it is at Doorn. Thank you Vincent for the suggestion. Regards Glenn
Glenn J Posted November 29, 2023 Author Posted November 29, 2023 I found him. It is Dutch gendarmerie (Marechausee) lieutenant-colonel Marius van Houten. He had been responsible for the Kaiser‘s security. Regards Glenn 3
Deutschritter Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 I wonder, If he might have received the Hohenzollern Hausorden from the Kaiser?
Glenn J Posted November 30, 2023 Author Posted November 30, 2023 Andreas, his actual medal bar can be seen here: https://gmic.co.uk/topic/77221-decorations-of-marius-cornelis-van-houten/#comment-696467 Regards Glenn
Glenn J Posted November 30, 2023 Author Posted November 30, 2023 Andreas, further to my last post, the answer appears to be yes! A commanders' cross, hence not on the bar. Regards Glenn 1
Deutschritter Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 (edited) Commander's cross as Dutch Oberst? That's generous, but certainly deserved. Thanks, Glenn! Edited November 30, 2023 by Deutschritter
