Kriegsmarine Admiral Posted February 15 Posted February 15 (edited) Hello, I need help confirming the identity of a Marinebeamte based on awards. There are no known photos of Ministerialrat Fritz Frerich Frerichs (1874-1946). I have a list of his awards from the Intendanturbeamten - Kriegsrangliste 1929 (see the 1st photo below): -Eisernes Kreuz (1914) I. Klasse -Eisernes Kreuz (1914) II. Klasse -Südwestafrika-Denkmünze in Stahl -Königlich Preußischer Roter Adler-Orden IV. Klasse -Landwehr Dienstauszeichnung II. Klasse -Hamburgisches Hanseatenkreuz I found this photo of a Marinebeamte whose visible awards match those of Frerichs (see the 2nd photo below). Ribbon bar (see the 3rd photo below): - Eisernes Kreuz (1914) II. Klasse - Hamburgisches Hanseatenkreuz ??? - Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer - Baltenkreuz - Südwestafrika-Denkmünze - Wehrmacht Dienstauszeichnung - Wehrmacht Dienstauszeichnung - ??? Is it possible the man in the photo is indeed Ministerialrat Fritz Frerich Frerichs? I still have some doubts: 1. The Rangliste lists the Königlich Preußischer Roter Adler-Orden IV. Klasse for Frerichs. But the man in the photo is not wearing it? 2. Is the 2nd ribbon the Hamburgisches Hanseatenkreuz? 3. What is the last ribbon? It doesn't look like the RAO4. Thanks! Kriegsmarine Admiral Posted February 18 Author Posted February 18 @Dave Danner Can you help perhaps? Thanks
Dave Danner Posted February 18 Posted February 18 I'd guess the last to be either a Centenary Medal or something foreign.
Kriegsmarine Admiral Posted February 18 Author Posted February 18 (edited) 1 hour ago, Dave Danner said: I'd guess the last to be either a Centenary Medal or something foreign. Thank you Dave. Do you think it's Frerichs in the photo though? Given the rather unique combination of awards (the Südwestafrika-Denkmünze in particular). Frerichs entered military service on 01 April 1899, so he wasn't eligible for the Centenary Medal. Also, can you confirm the 2nd ribbon is indeed the Hamburgisches Hanseatenkreuz? His biography has no mention of Freikorps service, so I am unable to confirm if he was eligible for the Baltenkreuz. Also, the lack of the RAO4 (which Frerichs had) on the ribbon bar is problematic. Kriegsmarine Admiral Posted February 20 Author Posted February 20 (edited) I would appreciate if more members shared their opinion on whether the person in the photo I posted is Ministerialrat Frerich Frerichs. @Daniel Krause, @Glenn J or @Nicolas7507 perhaps? Kriegsmarine Admiral Posted February 23 Author Posted February 23 Seeing how the Marinebeamter in the photo above doesn't have the RAO4 and the last ribbon is most likely the Zentenarmedaille (which Frerichs didn't have) like Dave said, I think it can't be Frerichs after all. So I looked for more possible candidates in the 1929 Intendanturbeamten - Kriegsrangliste. I found this Beamter: Baeck?, born 1876, entered service in 1896 (which would make him eligible for the Zentenarmedaille) The entry in the 1929 Intendanturbeamten - Kriegsrangliste says he was at that point retired. But he could've been reactivated to active service at some point. His award list includes: - Eisernes Kreuz (1914) I. Klasse - Eisernes Kreuz (1914) II. Klasse - Königlich Preußisches Dienstauszeichnungskreuz (which was replaced by the Wehrmacht Dienstauszeichnungen after 02 October 1936) - Südwestafrika-Denkmünze - Hamburgisches Hanseatenkreuz All these awards also fit with the Marinebeamter in the above photo. Could this Baeck? be the person in the above photo? Can anyone find more information about him? Thanks!
