Wood Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 And another late war gold with the maker mark L 56. with soldered on swordsAny comments on this?Obv.
Peter J Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 Hi Pete,My knowledge in these is limited, but this one is new to me. Late war without any catch-plate, no integrated cross in the middle and solid swords, not correct in my book. Perhaps it's the same guys who produced this one, to my opinion equally bad.KRPeter
deptfordboy Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 Hi All, Here's my maker-marked Osang in Bronze. Perhaps a silly question, but what is the logic behind the bronze being the rarest of these awards? I would have thought that more bronze would have been awarded than silver, gold etc? Cheers Gilbert
luftguy Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 Very nice examples of this award! I enjoyed viewing them.Bill

Cheers Gilbert←Well, in post #2 it is said "Created the 12 April, 1944 (L.V.Bl., Ziff 578), the central device of the crossed swords denotes the award to Air to Ground Support Squadron flyers .... the "Schlachtflieger"Most of the men qualifying for this clasp ALREADY had a clasp ( for bomber) in silver or gold and went for upgrade only, this why you will find more of those clasps in gold or with pendant than bronze ones.To get a bronze one mainly means you join the schlachtflieger as a beginer after April 12 1944 while all the other pilots and crew kept at least the class they had before. Not sure I am clear
deptfordboy Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 Thanks Francois, Crystal clear thank you! All makes sense now, any idea of the numbers awarded in Bronze? As you say, given the date and the situation with regard to the air war, it's unlikely many new pilots would have survived long enough to receive this. Cheers Gilbert
Peter J Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Maker mark L 56.Regards,Pete←Gentlemen, I thought this was a discussion forum, where are all the LW buffs KRPeter
