Stogieman Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Over my very long journey chasing St. Henry, I’ve only had one opportunity to procure a Gold St. Henry Medal. It was in a rather obscure auction house in Germany. My friend Detlev was present for the auction, but I dropped out at 2700-Euro. The medal had clearly been stripped off a medal bar as evidenced by the wear. The latest Thiess Auction now has the second one that I’ve ever seen offered! The opening bid is a mere 4500-Euro!! Guess I’ll just be watching this one! It’s rather beautiful, isn’t it?
VtwinVince Posted January 6 Posted January 6 You're right Rick, not something you see every day. Possible repair to the suspension? I'm suspicious of everything coming from this seller.
Stogieman Posted January 6 Author Posted January 6 Yes, it does look like a repair was made. Good eye!
Deruelle Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Hi, I have a doubt about this medal, Thies does not mention of a round hallmark on the rim. I have had a miniature of this medal in the past and there was an round hallmark. it's probably a piece that's been gilded by a jeweler. Even if I could afford it, I'd pass. Just my o pinion Christophe
Haku Posted January 9 Posted January 9 A round hallmark is only found on the bronze-gilt MSTHM, not on the genuine gold ones . I assume that the Thies piece is genuine gold.
Stogieman Posted January 13 Author Posted January 13 Final bid was 5050-Euro! While not a lot of Imperial ODM in this last auction, there was some spectacular pieces!
