reinoudmilitary Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 (edited) The cap has a nice "salty" look. The cockade is heavily damaged. The gold piping joins in the side! so that's a good thing, as I was told by Gordon and Michel (see other topic: uboat officer's sidecap, in GMIC)The eagle insignia is gold bullion.Very interesting is the unofficial capinsignia on the side, the crew of U763 had a white shield with a black chross, the swords I don't know. The swords are from metal and the picture below you can see how this is pinned on the cap. The White shield is made of the "plastic" kind material where original nameplates on U-boats and kriegsmarine equipment etc. where made from! It's sewned on and on stiching is loose so I can see the back which has the letters "Ku" (see picture) I hope I can get some opinion's on this cap! Edited June 8, 2006 by reinoudmilitary

joetauchretter Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 At the right side of the cap the piping joins togetherHello , What bothers me the most about this hat is the side emblems ! This hat looks very well worn such as the gold eagle and cockade but the side emblems , which just so happens to increase the value of a hat if it can be pinned to a certain u-boat number looks brand new and just added to this hat ! I see no traces of age or wear on any of the side emblems . Even if the sheild was made from white plastic it should have yellowed or show some cracking as is so common with plastics of this era . To me , in my humble opi8nion they stick out like a sore thumb ! They just do not seem to have aged like the rest of the hat , this is just my 2 cents worth .

Under the emblem the cloth looks like the emblem is there for years. O trie to take another picture of the emblems,Best Floris
