ErikMuller Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 An fellow collector has a Dutch medal group with an unknown foreign medal in it. Since the non-commissioned officer served in Sudan in 1974 we guess it's a Sudenese medal. Does anyone recognises this medal? And what was it awarded for?
Ed_Haynes Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Interesting. Quite interesting! It could well be Sudanese, as the ribbon seems to be the old Anglo-Egyptian period Long Service and Good Conduct Medal ribbon, but this would have been long obsolete by the period this group/medal seems to represent. The medal is unknown/unrecorded.Any chance of a closer scan?
ErikMuller Posted July 9, 2006 Author Posted July 9, 2006 Ed... Erik... I'm thinking Syrian..Dear Ed / Stogieman,This is the best I can do for a better imageThe Army nco received the Dutch Commemorative Medal Disaster Brigade with clasp "Sudan 1974" for assistance in the relief of the drought victims in October 1974. Because of this we think the medal must be Sudanese. As far as I know the Dutch Army has no connections with Syria.
Ed_Haynes Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 No not any known Syrian. I'd suggest Sudan, but we know sooooo little about Sudanese ODM. Let me squint at the scan for a bit.
Stogieman Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Sorry, I thought the adjacent was French.... hence the Syria connection. Missed the Dutch thing, Sudan makes more sense, but I have zip experience there........

The flaming torch is indicative of a 'revolutionary' goverment and the manufacture is definitely local..............Owain
Herr General Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Erik, it is the Local goverment medal from the Republic of the Sudan http://onderscheidingenforum.nl/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=698&hilit=soedan
ErikMuller Posted December 3, 2011 Author Posted December 3, 2011 Thanks Roel, Completely forgot about this thread, but I had read the thread on the Onderscheidingenforum already! Cheers, Erik
