gingerbread Posted January 23, 2008 Author Posted January 23, 2008 (edited) One picture after a good cleaning. Can you help me to have more information about this badge? RegardsBen Edited January 23, 2008 by gingerbread
Paul L Murphy Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 No idea about the badge but the character on it is pronounced "Gu" and means tool, vessel, ingredients, or is the counter ordinal for armour, suits and sets of furniture. It can be used in certain compound words associated with armorers so I suspect it is used in that context here. Regards,Paul
gingerbread Posted January 23, 2008 Author Posted January 23, 2008 HiThanks a lot for information. Very interesting. The badge comes from the little Scorff U-boat bunker in Lorient.I found it under the quay wood board among lot of german KM items!!!I29 in the Scorff bunker in 1944RegardsBen
David Gregory Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Ben,That is a terrific find. What else have you discovered? When you are next there, could you find out the maker and age of the crane and hoist, please? The information should be on the data or rating plates attached to the bridge and one on the bottom block (moufle inf?rieure) of the hoist. Thanks in advance,David

Ibrahim Ahmad Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Hi Ben,My apologies for the late reply, I received your email 2 days ago but have been busy with work.Congratulations on getting those relics !! And thank you ( merci ) for posting pictures of the U-Boat pen Please click on the link below for a video on a Japanese I-Boat (I-8) that went to Brest,France.http://www.singapore-ww2-militaria.com/trailer3.htmlAnyone here has a video on I-30 & I-29 that visited Lorient,France ?Cheers,Ibrahim,Singapore.
Paul R Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 This stuff is better than any U-Boat badge! Can you imagine the things these plaques witnessed? They were definitely fixed to the Uboats because the holes seem to busted out, like they were ripped off their fittings. Perhaps they were removed from replaced equipment that was removed during repairs??
