I've got several updates. Serial numbers etc. but I thought this was as good a place as any to start.

New high ORBL type 2 #7020.

I'll post both the front and the back 'cause I can never get enough of these.

Front.

Going by the award date of #6238: 15/04/1993 Bamyn Dojuu, I'm guesssing that this one would be from the very late '90's/early 2000 or could it be unissued???

It's in near perfect shape so who knows...

They did switch to the Brass ones so maybe this was issued.... the plot thickens

Nice late silver pinback. Issued? Unissued? Surplus stocks from the state bank? Hard to say until some records open up.

As an update:

Type 1 (screwback) - Low 83/High 3744

Type 2 (silver pinback) - Low 4029/High 7020

Type 3.1 (bronze pinback numbered) - Low 9050/High 9060

Type 3.2 (bronze pinback unnumbered - unawarded "escapee"?)

The current (ugly) bronze pinback is quite uncommon (close to "rare"?), although they are out there. They are clearly being awarded. When I was in UB, I saw television news coverage of interviews with recent recipients after a bestowal ceremony (all in Mongolian, so working from images only here); all recipients were clearly wearing the bronze varieties.

Playing with my new scale today. Some interesting and weighty results on the few RBLs on "home leave". All Type 1 (screwback).

83 - 64.80 grams

198 - 61.90 grams

484 - 62.55 grams

1423 - 60.05 grams

All weighed without screw nuts of course.

Something to think about??

Tells us something about (1) variability in manufacture, (2) decline in standards over time, and (3) the dangers of expecting too much standardization?

A 27/M 10.1 -- Type 1 (Screwback, ~ 4000 awarded) -- Low = 83/High = 3913; 1945-70

A 28.1/M 10.2 -- Type 2.1 (Pinback, silver) -- Low = 4029/High = 7020; 1970-2004

A 28.2 -- Type 2.2 (pinback bronze) -- Low = 9050/High = 9060; 2004?

Type 2.3 (pinback bronze, not numbered, unawarded escapee?)

I guess I really am just an old-fashioned person at heart. I much prefer the 2 earlier designs. I can certainly understand the changes. The cost and labor involved in producing the early designs of each of the orders must have simply become prohibitive at some point.
